The modern politicians Hons Fraser & Walwyn, Teleprompter & App!

While the teleprompter is not a new device it certainly has never been used on the campaign trail in the Virgin Islands before until shadow Premier Hon Julian Fraser RA (left), the Chairman of the VIP, introduced it last week to the political culture. Controversial National Democratic Party At-Large candidate Hon Myron V. Walwyn will allow Virgin Islanders and residents all around the world to stay abreast of the happenings on his campaign trail via an App. Photo: VINO/Provided
Thus far, Hon Julian Fraser is the only elected official who has used this equipment to deliver his addresses on the campaign trail. He is now in line with other first world leaders who only use modern teleprompters both on the campaign trail and for official addresses such as United States President Barack H. Obama, France President Francois N. Hollande and Canada Prime Minister Stephen J. Harper, to name a few. Photo: VINO

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- As the 2015 political season winds down, with about two weeks left of campaigning and the public having to be bombarded by radio, online and tv commercials and the speeches from the rostrums, two politicians have stepped up the campaigning to a new level.

They are the Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) and Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn.

Hon Fraser & his teleprompter a first!

While the teleprompter is not a new device it certainly has never been used on the campaign trail in the Virgin Islands before until shadow Premier Hon Julian Fraser, the Chairman of the VIP, introduced it last week to the political culture.

A teleprompter is a display device that prompts the person speaking with an electronic visual text of a speech or script.

Light from the teleprompter passes through the front side of a flat glass into the lens where the person can read from when speaking. It means that the speaker does not need to look down to consult written notes.

Thus far, Hon Julian Fraser is the only elected official that has used this equipment to deliver his speeches on the campaign trail and is now in line with other First World leaders who only use modern teleprompters both on the campaign trail and for official addresses such as United States President Barack H. Obama, France President Francois N. Hollande and Canada Prime Minister Stephen J. Harper, to name a few.

One thing is for sure, if Hon Fraser becomes the British Overseas Territory’s third Premier we can be sure that we will have a modern man, who is social media ready and can speak from a teleprompter.

Walwyn & the App

While the controversial National Democratic Party At-Large candidate Hon Myron V. Walwyn is fighting for his political life, having been caught up in a scandal raised by the main Opposition over catering for the House of Assembly without permission and declaration and his firm Orion Law doing business directly with the BVI Health Services Authority and labeled by the Opposition as conflict of interest and illegal, the Education Minister has pulled out a first like Hon Fraser.

A few weeks ago he launched an App. According to a press release to media houses, the App will allow Virgin Islanders and residents all around the world to stay abreast of the happenings on his campaign trail.

The App gives users the opportunity to stay updated with the latest ways to connect, volunteer, learn about events, receive messages to share with friends and family, view upcoming events, social media streams and view photos and videos on all smart and android cellular phones.

While many local companies and individuals have Apps, Minister Walwyn has been the first to have one for his political campaign.

The 2015 campaign has certainly been stepped up, thanks to Hon Julian Fraser RA and Hon Myron V. Walwyn, two bitter rivals.

      The NDP:
      - Built a brand new Technical School so that our youth can take up their rightful place in these industries.
      - Developed a Youth Unemployment Service for our young people to register, receive training and matched with employers
      - Built an entirely new library at ESHS because it was run down when they got in.
      - Created the Small Business Bureau in 2003. When VIP got in 2007 they abandoned it. NDP revamped it again in 2011 and since then many locals who couldn’t get financing through the banks have gotten assistance to start their business.
Not only monies, but advice and ongoing assistance.
      - Total overhaul of our Education system from kindergarten through High School.
      - Introduction of culture, flag raising and overall patriotism in our schools.
      - Completion of Peebles Hospital
      - Building of a first-class cruise pier
      - Building of a beautiful Crafts Alive center, finally ridding us of the unsightly tent city
      - Clean up of wickhams cay which had become a dump heap for old cars, boats, pipes etc.
      - Addressing the sewage issues in East End Long Look once and for all with a temporary treatment plant while works are ongoing on the permanent solutions.
      - Accessed CDB monies which VIP could not access because they had our finances in shambles, now works are moving forward.
      - Purchase of proper road equipment so that the Government would not be held hostage by greedy contractors and can address the road issues once and for all.
      - Emerging fellow awards for youth to assist them financially to go abroad to expand on their interests.
      - Special Needs children finally granted a line item in the budget for the first time, with programs and opportunities in place for those families.
      - BVIEC about to embark on phase 5 to build capacity for power generation
      - Focus on Teacher training to ensure that our kids get the best when it comes to learning
      - Focus on Principal Training by offering principals the opportunity to travel overseas and get on-site training so that our schools can be properly run.
      - Introduction of Teacher Licensing which will ensure that all teachers are held to the highest standards and are equipped with the necessary tools across the board.
      - NHI so that persons who lose their jobs, have preconditions or are too old to access private insurance, they can be covered locally and globally if necessary.
      - Road Town Sewage project well underway to finally address the long standing issues that we have been faced with.
      - $40+ million on our reserves after only 3 years after meeting only $7 mil which puts us on our way to be able to borrow and control our own finances once again. Read the recent Cayman Islands news about their issues and you will see how important this is for us!
      - Not having to lay off one single civil servant, cut pay or freeze hiring. The Government has managed to save more, keep employees, implement new systems within Government.
      - New equipment at our Fisheries Complex to enable better storage and faster payments to our fishermen.
      - Elected officials constantly on social media interacting with the people for the first time ever in our politics.
      - VG new Basketball stadium and park for families
      - Refurbishing of other recreational facilities Territory-wide including Belle Vue Gym and Green Land field which VIP dug up and couldn’t afford to even start.
      - FIFA partnership to build proper sporting facility on Tortola.
      - HEMA partnership with HSA to enable our people to access specialist care without travelling overseas
      - Introduction of mandatory CXC at Secondary Level with Government paying all fees which is value for money and finally enables us to measure our success compared to our peers in the Region.
If these things listed and all the other things does not show a Government that cares about the regular man, I don’t know what you are talking about. This Government has made multiple missteps but to say they don’t care about the country is ludicrous. The facts speak for themselves, no argument or debate needed.

The majority of the plans below was or are in the initial stage of implementation by the NDP.

      e.g.

Ten Year Development Plan - Already being done
Maritime and Oceanographic Curiculum and Academy - College already offers this
Swimming and sea skills curiculum for all schools - Have locals teaching these skills and by doing this you will take bread out of the little man's mouth, besides no pools in the school
Turn HLSCC into full university - already being worked on
School of Tourism and Hospitality as part of maritime and oceanographic academy - Already being worked on
Junior High School with science and technology orientation - Already in place
Junior High School with computer Department training students in coding and programming - already in place
Clear immigration and customs in Charlotte Amalie - I really don't think I need justify ignorance
Develop west end and road town ferry docks to 5 star - already being worked on
Establish luxury ferry services - Then government will have to pay the loan payments....NDP is already trying to bring the community to work together to ensure a reliable inter-island ferry service.
Establish ferry services until late evening so no more travelers overnight in USVI - This is not a government but a private issue.
Air shuttles between USVI and BVI - already in place
Late night shuttle air service between San Juan and Beef Island - already in place
Establish Airport development under 10 year development plan - Already being worked on
Establish economic zones in West End and on Beef Island - Already being worked on
Build second cruise pier in West End with private funds - Already being worked on
Establish deviancy and learning challenges facility - Already in place
New housing policy to bring financial relief to first time home buyers - Already in place
Department of Homeland Security - Already in place, just under a different name
No victimization - Who victimize more than VIP....Hahahaha
paying civil servants their increments - Already being worked on.....I think they should be grateful that nobody got fired compared to neighboring islands.

VIPs---I encourage you all to listen to Mr. K. Pickering speech. I think its the best speech of all politicians that I have heard--though--though...though I think labour and agriculture is falling behind...One of the crucial and critical things in that speech is the census statistics---of the 13,000 plus voters 5,000 plus are expatriates-- at-lease 80% of them will vote . we know why,? His speech was also honest, godly and fearless....I don`t know but he sounds like a cancer man-fearless, don't like wrong. .speak -out against injustice. .understanding forgiving--before I listen to his speech, I wanted him to lose, now I want him to win--he is an example of class/

Walwyn declare that children be kept back even if they only failed one subject in the first term and passed the second and third term with all other subjects passed for all three terms. The staff at the high school stating he said the kids are weak, weak what! Now they changed the strategy again almost back to that way that Fahie had it. You need to be helping the kids not having them and the education system yoyoing. Now at the lower grades, it's top heavy, the kids give up and more kids coming in and you have over age children to remain six years in high school.
