PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI – As the Rotary Club of Road Town staged its inaugural Go-Kart Derby and Family Fun Day the boys and girls that still exist in grown men and women took centre stage as they mingled with the kids.

This was especially so in the Go-Kart Derby aspect of the event where those present saw men challenging their peers, husband challenging wife, boss challenging employee and even the elderly taking on a politician.

Many persons had the opportunity to enjoy riding the Go-Karts but then there was the competition aspect of it. Several persons entered the competition where the organizers did the preliminary run allowing it boil down to the semi finals.

This stage was for four laps that saw four persons qualifying; Simon Cross, Alvin Ramnarine, Judah Bertie and Andrew Emery.

Cross and Ramnarine were no competition for Emery and Bertie who ended up being the contenders for the finals. The two remembering that every second count took on the five laps run for the trophy and in the end Emery showed Bertie that the big boy run things as he shook the lad’s hand and wished him better luck next time.

Among others who took on the challenge in the competition were Rotary Road Town’s President Shan Mohamed and the Public Relations Officer Gordon U. French, many persons from the Pilipino Association, Lime and Nagico staff members among others.

Honourable Archibald C. Christian who was also there had no time for politics as he showed his usual social side since he was out to have some real fun. In a special race he took on the challenge of Mr Richard Parsons‎ and was taunted by the DJ of the event Mr Craig A. 'Push Pop' Lake for them leading the slowest challenge of the day. Hon Christian comfortably won.

It was also a day of giving as LIME one of the main sponsors for the event was on the spot. It was a lucky day for a Police Officer who was on duty at the event and who had topped up her phone on the spot. While she was busy carrying out her duties her name echoed across the ground declaring her the winner of a brand new smart phone. That Police Officer is Ms Brenderley Pont‎.

This is what they need to do instead of the stupid idea of drag racing. Go-Karts are far more affordable for the youth than a drag car, far safer, far quieter, take up less space and feasible.

At last we have an official driving school on the Island. This should be conpulsory training for all new and existing car drivers in the BVI. Three laps with out crashing and your free to drive anywhere, and insurers will offer a discount.
