'Thanks for opening your homes & hearts to me’ – Zoe J. Walcott-McMillan
Despite the strong showing for the young vibrant VIP candidate, she lost to Honourable Delores Christopher who gained 590 votes or 58 percent.
Speaking exclusively to this news site, Walcott-McMillan said that on Election Day the people spoke “and made a democratic choice to retain the incumbent Hon Delores Christopher who I congratulated right after conceding.”
“Allow me to take this time to thank God for seeing us through [and] my hard working committee members and strong supporters for their faith, time and energy. I also take this time to thank you the voters and people of the Fifth District who opened your homes and hearts to me,” she said.
Not wanting to say much more, Walcott-McMillan said this is not the end, but the beginning and asked that persons work together with her “for the good of this place we love and call home.”
During her brief sojourn on the campaign trail, Walcott-McMillan campaigned on a platform for the development of the Fifth District into a second city, saying that it had all of the amenities and services that one would expect to find in a city.
She had campaigned strongly on improving tourism, noting that the district had a lot to offer in terms of its culture.
The young candidate also wowed the crowd with her ‘got it’ checklist at the end of every one of her meetings where she would name an amenity or service and the crowd would respond “got it” meaning that it was available in the Fifth District.
Her youthful appeal and fiery delivery won over many persons, especially youth, but she could not unseat the clear favourite.
Except for Hon Julian Fraser RA in the Third District and Hon Andrew A. Fahie in the First District, Walcott-McMillan had about the best showing for a VIP candidate at the district polls.
