SPANISH TOWN, Virgin Gorda, VI - Team Underdogs with captain Gerry, walked away with the 1st prized for the 2019 edition of the Virgin Gorda (VG) Easter Festival Fishing Competition, having caught 321lbs of fish overall.

However, their main competitor Sundance, captained by Dale Blondie aka ‘Mr Hog Haven’, walked away with two prizes 1000k for the heaviest other fishes and 1000k as second place for their overall catch of 209lbs.

Three vessels participated this year but the 3rd vessel did not pull a catch on day one and did not turn in at the close of day two.

Trade kept Alive

Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) and Sister Islands Coordinator, Sasha D. A. Flax were on hand for the presentations.

According to Mr Verne Wheatley, who coordinated the competition this year, many retired fishermen who saw the importance of keeping the event alive, came out despite several challenges this year.

He complimented team underdogs for having quite a number of youths in the competition, expressing delight that they "Learn the trade,"
