FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI— Two men were arrested this week in the US Virgin Islands (USVI) on separate gun charges- one for firing shots loosely after a dispute with a former lover, and another who was caught while in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Reckless Endangerment

According to [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Public Information Officer Toby Derima, at about 4:10pm Tuesday,  April 28, 2020, police arrested Malik Rohlsen, age 21 of Concordia Bay, charging him with first-degree reckless endangerment.

The day before, on Monday at around 7:44 pm, the 911 Emergency Call Center received reports of shots being fired in the Mars Hill residential area and dispatched officers.

Residents of the area indicated that Rohlsen fired the shots. Further investigation revealed that Rohlsen discharged the shots during a disagreement with his former intimate partner.

Rohlsen was not offered bail pending his initial court appearance.

Possession of Unlicensed Firearm

On Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at approximately 3:47am, 20-year-old D’Andre George of Sugar Mill Estates was arrested and charged with unauthorised possession of a firearm and possession or sale of ammunition.

An unlicensed firearm with an obliterated serial number and ammunition were found in George’s residence during the execution of a search warrant, Mr Derima said.

Unable to make bail of $50,000, George was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advisement hearing.
