GREAT HARBOUR, Jost van Dyke, VI – Deputy Speaker in the Virgin Islands (VI) House of Assembly (HoA) Hon Neville A. Smith (AL) has called on the people of the territory to unite and have more mutual respect for each other.

“We have to respect each other, we also have to respect the government and we will respect you… every time you talk bad about an individual, you’re talking bad about yourself, so try to remember that,” Hon Smith said.

He was at the time speaking at a public meeting on Jost van Dyke on Thursday, October 22, 2020, and also urged citizens to stop the internal fighting and work together.

'Not what you say, how you say it' – Hon Smith

“I expect the people to make comments, but it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. So we have to remember that… but we have to stop fighting down each other and start working together as one BVI, no Island is being left behind with this government,” he told those gathered.

The HoA At-Large representative also urged citizens to be careful about their social media and chatroom use.

“So let’s start acting as one BVI people, whether its Jost van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Tortola, it's one BVI and we need to start focusing that way so that the people who are not in the BVI, when they come here, they feel BVI love,” he said.

Some people really go over board with the disrespect...But things are hard, people are suffering, part of it is frustration,, People feel obligated to speak up and speak out.. We need understanding and empathy...

respect fundamental rights and freedoms in the bvi and we will live together as one;thereafter in peace and in harmony;until politicians and people in big high authority respect our fundamental rights and freedom, with our votes that give them a job, there will be no respect for them..

In life there are two main positions. all other position are offsprings of these two positions. Position 1. Good. Position 2. Evil. We humans chose to love one or the other or stradle from one to the other when it suit our desires. I care very much to inform you Hon. Minister Neville A. Smith, even if you and others disgreed with me, that it is imposible for humans live peacefully without being empowered (powered up) by our Creator and Spiritual Father, Almighty God. Some of us understand this, and are daily prayinf for His help. Others think that mind over matter will work. Of course this false way of thinking is working, but against our personal good, and our community good at large. I respect your csll to unity my brother, but does oil mixed with water health drink? Does evil locked in battle against good enhance peace? Does selfishness and and biasness unite peoples of this world? If peace and unity among humans you and I desire only by mental assumptions and humans physical efforts, this kind of thinking is futile, and our actions will produce fee positive change. May God by Power of His Love, His grace, and mercies help us get the crime devil off our backs, from our homes, our schools, the churches Pulpits etc., and our of our community at large.

Good advice, Hon. Smith. However, it seems like the VIP Government is trying to outdo others with disrespect and taking the populace for fools. It is really disappointing to see how this Government is treating people of the BVI. Not because persons cannot vote for an individual does it mean that that individual has to have no regard for such citizens. Those who depend on the votes are also being careless, so don't be surprised for a rude awakening. Time longer than twine.
