ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Both And One and Kings got the best of five British Virgin Islands Basketball Federation’s (BVIBF) League Championship off to winning starts in the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex on Wednesday August 10, 2016.

And One took on the Stingers with pace and aggression as well as strong defense to come out 93-84 winners.

Eral Penn top scored with 29 points and 17 rebounds, whilst Devante Brewley scored 19 points, including a three right on the final buzzer. Lestin Wiltshire netted 12 with 10 rebounds, Dante Vanterpool added 8 points, Akeem Nibbs 7 and Demoi Dagou 6 with 7 rebounds.

The Stingers were led by 24 points and 8 rebounds from Romain Minott, 21 points, 10 rebounds from D’Moi M. Hodge. Omar Walker added 9 points, Tyler Cameron 8 with 10 rebounds and Neville Smith Junior 8 points with 11 rebounds.

Game Two is scheduled for Friday August 12, 2016.

Kings overpower weary Legs

In the Senior Division, the shorthanded Legs had raced into a twenty point lead by the end of the first quarter, but were eventually undone by the Kings, who recovered to win game one 99-91.

Killven M. Samuel top scored with 34 points for the Kings, Leslee Smith 18 with 10 rebounds, Ray D. Victor 17 with 10 rebounds and Dameon Ottley 13 with 7 rebounds.

The Legs top scorer was Franklyn L. Penn with 30, whilst Dionne M. Blyden notched 26 and Gary Hillhouse finished with 17 and 11 rebounds.

Game two is also scheduled for Friday evening and should see some interesting changes to line up of both teams. The Legs, who will be able to call upon their USVI squad members, whilst still missing Jason A. Edwin, who is away at a Digicel Coaching Seminar and the Kings, may well be short of Ottley.

Did u see the referees in their new outfit. They were spot on with the calls says an NCAA athletic director who was the games visiting from Michigan. We don't always give them the creddit they deserves.
