PHILIPSBURG, St Maarten- Scotiabank BVI Branch Manager Ryan L. Best, who suffered severe head trauma and was subsequently air dashed to the United States of America (USA) following a hit and run accident on Sint Maarten on April 28, 2018, has since undergone two surgeries and has been responsive.

According to the Daily Herald today, May 9, 2018, Mr Best had to undergo two surgeries in the United States on Monday May 7, 2018 and, according to a family member, both surgeries went well and he returned from the operations late Monday.

“The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) result shows that there is bleeding on his right side of his brain, which controls mobility of the left side of the body. Doctors told the family there might be some deficit with his left side and based on observations, the victim is more active on the right side of his body with his fidgeting and movements,” The Daily Herald reported.

It also said doctors did inform family members that this prognosis is not confirmed 100 per cent, as they want to do some further tests. “However, he did open his eyes fully on Tuesday for the first time since the accident and when the nurse came in and called his name, his eyes followed her across the room.”

The family member, according to the Daily Herald, said, “He did not speak and then he later closed back his eyes. Let’s continue to pray for him and wish that the bleeding stops and that there is no negative fallout to this accident.”

Driver still on the run

Meanwhile, police on Sint Maarten are yet to make an arrest in relation to the hit & run accident that occurred at approximately 03.05 A.M. on Welfare Road in the vicinity of Topper’s Restaurant.

The St Maarten Police Traffic Department is still investigating the accident and hopes to arrest the person responsible for it soon. The victim was crossing the street and was struck by a private vehicle with French license plate. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and continued driving toward Simpson Bay.

Investigating officers found the victim lying in pool of blood in front of “Toppers” and was clear to see that he suffered severe head trauma.

As this probe continues, the police are asking those persons who were in the vicinity at the time of the accident to get in contact with Traffic Department as soon as possible by calling 542-2222 extension 241 or the Emergency Dispatch by dialling 911.

Life and death is in the power of the tongue. Put aside our differences and speak life. There is power in prayer call his name before the Lord God almighty who is the miracle worker,The healer. In the name of Jesus i pray that healing would take place and that the person or persons who drove off the scene be exposed and justice will be served.

Stephen Hawkins, who died this year, suffered from Lou Gehrig's Disease or ALS. We wish Ryan a complete recovery.
