St Kitts will be adding a second cruise pier at Port Zante in Basseterre.

The government announced the move Wednesday following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the St Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority and Massachusetts-based J Cashman Corporation.

The latter will construct the second cruise pier at Port Zante. St Kitts, a leading cruise port in the region, is among the destinations for the new Quantum of the Seas ship.

It’s one of several new projects being undertaken in part by the SCASPA, including the planned solar farm at Robert L Bradshaw International Airport.

That farm, developed with support from the government of Taiwan, is projected to produce around 1 megawatt of energy. St Kitts’ government said the farm would be completed by August 2013.
