"Bam Bam" and "Ace" are just two of the big names missing from the Pythons line up for 2012 due to College commitments.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The BVI Softball Association is hoping the 2012 Season will be as action packed as last time around and has announced the schedule of leagues and also the exciting news of a four team tournament to be held January 27, 2012.

First up in the busy schedule is a General Meeting for all coaches and managers on Wednesday January 11, 2012, at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School.

Then on Thursday January 19, 2012, also at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School they will be holding Elections for offices and other positions. This meeting will also start at 6:00 p.m.

By the time those Elections are held, the Junior Leagues will be underway. The proposed start date is set for January 18, 2012, but appears to be dependent on the teams organizing and submitting all required forms on time.

Defending Champions, the Padres will again be looking to be the team to beat. In 2011 they completed back to back victories to take the Championship from the Diamondbacks by 2 games to 1.

The deciding game saw the Padres win 21-14 win, with Thea Cooke recording the decisive win having restricted the more fancied Diamondbacks to just 8 hits for their 14 runs. Cooke was later named as the MVP of the series. J’heane Niles went 3 for 5, hit a home run, scored 4 and knocked in 3 to lead the batting, closely followed by Niesa Lloyd who was 2 for 5 with a home run and knocked in 4. Bria Smith scored 3 for the D’backs, with 2 RBI’s and Joi Ann Thomas scored a run and knocked in 1.

In the Boys’ Championship, the Rays found themselves tied at 1-1 following the Orioles 24-15 win in game 2. However, the deciding match wasn’t even close, though, as pitcher Machino Maduro restricted the Orioles to just 4 hits and the Rays won 21-13. Tyler Lewis hitting a home run, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI’s. Tyler was named MVP of the series.

The action from the mound continues on January 27 and 28 at the Old Recreation Ground (surely overdue a name change to celebrate a past Softballer). The Tournament features four teams including the VI-Eagles, the Hurricanes, the Reds, and the Latinos.

The Senior Leagues have also been tentatively set for March 24/25th 2012. 6) Information pertaining to the Annual Banquet will be announced at a later date.

Who could forget the drama of last season in the Women’s Division especially when the Pythons created a little bit of Softball history lifting the crown and also going unbeaten through the season.

The Pythons won Game 3 against the Crushers 10-5 in Game 3. The winning pitcher was Jellisa Potter in relief of Sheniqua "Bam Bam" Fahie and the loser was Kathleen Fahie.

Darier Malone of Pythons was 3-4 with a double, 2 triples, a run scored and 2 runs batted in and Jelisa Potter was 2-3 with a run scored and 2 runs batted in. Potter who won all three games and had 7 hits in 11 at bats was the series Most Valuable Player.

However, the Pythons may well have lost some of their key players with Potter, Fahie and Malone off at college to name but a few.

The Hurricanes claimed the 2011 men’s Fast Pitch Softball Championship 4 games to 1 with a thrilling 6-5 victory over the Reds.

The one event the Association has yet to re-schedule is the Annual Dinner, but they expect to issue news on that shortly.
