Smith’s Bristol Flyers edge into Play Off Zone

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islander Leslee J. Smith and the Bristol Flyers completed a weekend double over Cheshire Phoenix, on Sunday April 9, 2017 and moved one win clear in the race for the play-offs in the British Basketball League.

Andreas Kapoulas' side, with the 89-83 win, improve to 14 wins from 30, crucially ahead of Surrey Scorchers with three games left each including a potentially decisive showdown.

Hameed Ali led a balanced attack with 19 points, while Mike Vigor impressed for his 18 and Leslee J. Smith tallied a 15-point, 15-rebound double-double, adding an assist and 2 blocks.

Bristol made a bright start to lead by 11 during the first quarter and that would end up being the difference between the two teams at the half.

The hosts closed to within seven on a three from Mike DiNunno in the third before an 11-2 close saw the Flyers open up a commanding 16-point advantage.

Cheshire went on a late 11-0 burst to cut the gap to 79-84, but the visitors were able to ice the game from the foul line for another important victory.

The Flyers are also half a game behind South-West rivals Plymouth Raiders who sit in seventh, while Cheshire Phoenix fall to a 9-21 record on the season.

On Friday April 7, 2017 Smith had a quieter night shooting, in the 91-78 win, but did pick up 12 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist.
