Smith & Flyers shot down by Riders
With the win, the Leicester Riders remain the only unbeaten team in the BBL, whilst Smith’s Flyers are stuck at the wrong end of the table in 10th place, tied with Leeds Force.
Timely scores from Greg Streete enabled Flyers to keep the game within 11 points at the end of the first half and Smith had two quick scores inside to start the second half. The Riders were gobbling up rebounds for second chance opportunities and their lead ballooned to 20 points.
In the final period, Bristol found themselves defensively because of their effort to stop the visitors' potent outside shooting. This gave Leicester a lot of space to work the ball inside for easy points and the Riders did not let up as their 60% shooting from the field helped them establish a 25 point lead.
On the opposite end the home squad seemed stagnant with players standing around and little ball movement. Bristol endured a stretch with limited success offensively and the game was out of sight towards the final few minutes of the quarter with the scoreline 60-85 at the buzzer.
Smith finished with 8 points, on 3 for 10 from the field, 0 for 3 from three point range and 2 for 4 from the Free Throw line. He picked up two defensive and two offensive rebounds and added one assist and one steal to his 25 minutes on court.
Riders were led by Drew Sullivan's 16 points, on 75% shooting, with five players in double-figures including 14 for Eric Robertson, and 12 points and 8 rebounds for Pierre Hampton.
