JOE'S Hill, Tortola, VI- Tourists heading to Cane Garden Bay were given a slight scare when the Safari vehicle they were in ended off the road on Joe's Hill around noon today, November 22, 2016.

According to reports, the vehicle was close to Harrigan's Estate when it encountered difficulties and ended up on the side of the road.

It was during showers that the incident occurred but it is not clear whether the wet road had anything to do with the vehicle hitting the side of the road.

Passengers were transported from the scene by another vehicle.

From all accounts, no one was injured.

this is why brandy wine bay beach is so important, when the weather is bad on the north, the taxi buses can go to brandy wine bay beach instead which is wayyyyyy more safe to travel, hon picko don't mind the noise, get that beach going, its going to save the bvi millions!

When will these Taxi Drivers use common sense? When the weather is so bad with rain, don't take the tourists to Cane Garden Bay. There are so many more beaches that are on the flatter ground and is not dangerous to drive to. These drivers need to get together and decide when weather is bad, which other beaches they should use and stop trying to impress them with one over crowed beach.

Well this will cause a big stir up, who inspects these buses to be in compliance? Oh, NO ONE! No, it could not happen if the brakes failed or the tires are bad.

The £$%&@ road is wet! No matter how good a condition a vehicle in, it's still a piece of man made machinery and when nature calls, shit happens. Be glad nobody was hurt! The best of us can slide on a hill when it's wet, much less a packed big safari bus.

how u ain't sure it was he lost control. or the bus couldn't hold the weight going up or the speed he was going

That's why we need a compliance officer to make sure it won't happen! Makes perfect sense to risk the lives of many, right? You using this as an excuse, we all know that it could have happen to anyone but I'm sure car dealers won't sell any if they can't climb wet hills without brakes and tires. But I will bet you that Bus service record is poor. That's my point, careless and negilence is what gets us in trouble. You better pray that one of those tourist don't sue for negligence, and no regulations. TB will have to spend some hush money to Disney, don't talk about the blogs and reviews they will write to warn others how unsafe the buses are. I'm taking the truth!

most of u all here talking piss, the tourist board and traffic department have officers out on the cruise ship dock who are very strick, what happened today had to do with the weather conditions, we should give the driver more credit for not allowing the passengers to be hurt!

I think, after living here well over 20 years full time - and driving that road almost everyday - the problem is a combination of the two - the drivers are very good - but they are only as good as their equipment and the road. That said - the road on Joes Hill is ok - to a point. Once you reach the top and hit the switchbacks - all bets are off - the corners of each road should be in concrete - not blacktop - blacktop gets very slippery. That said maybe the taxi vehicles should have 4x4 drive if they are bringing anyone up the hills - no bash on any government party. Just seems like common sense and we've seen too many of these accidents with the guests to the island.....just my thoughts

Concrete is more slippery to drive on when wet than the black top Sparky.

I was thinking the same thing. I know concrete to more slippery when wet than black pavement.

Howw? Explain now asphlat is more slippery than concrete? When wet the concrete forms a moss type coating which makes driving up hill or down hill very dangerous. Asphalt has more grip for the tires when wet than concrete.

I think people would be very surprised to know many of this large trucks DO NOT have 4 wheel drive. People assume because its a truck (and yes the safari bus part is built onto the truck) they are 4x4 but in fact many are not.

the gov need to take these taxi owners seriously as they rushing taking the easy way out risking ppl life pulling the country down all for just a quick dollar and a extra trip why go over the hill when you know your buss is not fit to

Asphalt is more slippery than concrete when wet, for the petroleum product in flexible pavement. Major contributors to road slippery conditions when wet is 1)road condition and 2) grade (steepness/slope. Drivers maintain your vehicles properly for optimum safe operations. Trying to save a penny now can end up costing thousands or even hundred of thousand or even worst a fatality. For your peace of mind do not be penny smart and pound foolish. Drive safely you all---buckle up and stay off the phone. Do text and drive and do not drink and drive.

The driver did the right thing and let it go to the hill instead of running back down the hill. thank God no one was hurt. This can happen to any driver taxi or private. Let's keep our comments on the positive side thank God all is well.

Don't you think those corners needs to be removed suppose it was two of those big trucks one going up n one coming down there's no way we would b talking this. Gov we send to many ppl to school to study roads n bridges let's make that road straight. Your turn is coming soon and only when it applies to you we will c the change.

Actually we have people in government with Doctrines but it is if they are listening to them, some of our leadership rather cut corners to save cost now and we all pay the cost later.

The taxis are mostly poorly maintained are the drivers are not properly trained.

Add to that that they feel politically strong and will get a free pass all the time and that they are often (not all) greedy and drive carelessly. It is dangerous to get on those things. They speed along pedestrian spces in town and at CGB and also stop at places where passing cars cannot see around them, particularly as the majority of cars are left hand drive.

These guys need training to get a new standard of licence or no licence at all. How to maintain the vehicle, handle it and to be responsible, safe and considerate. The police also needs to be involved to monitor a new standard of care.

Are we big enough to make it happen or will it get swept under the carpet as usual like the ones where people even die? Authorities too wet to stand up to the taxi men? Being fair, it's not just a BVI thing, a tourist was killed in a taxi recently in Dominica too. The fact that taxis driving like idiots even makes it onto tshirts and other souvenirs is just mindless. Sure, there may have been an element of humour way back before we had so many vehicles and tourists but not now. Time to grow up and lead as a nation.

There are other beaches all over. Cane Garden Bay may have more restaurants, but the beach itself is not better than others and it is way overcrowded. . There is Trellis Bay, Josiah's Bay, Brandy Wine Bay (Coming soon), Well Bay, Long Bay East End, etc etc. The Drivers should really THINK, alternate beaches to take tourists to so they can drive safer on the flat.

You cannot modify a truck designed for hauling specific payloads and then throw a set of mostly fat tourists, not distributed evenly over the chassis in the back on a super steep slippery road and not end up with accidents. This will never work.
