Skelton-Cline is working diligently to improve ports – Hon. Vanterpool
“He has brought forward a lot of proposals before us...especially for the main cruise pier port. We have had three proposals and another group will be meeting with us on Monday [today February 6],” Hon. Vanterpool told this news agency on Friday, February 3, 2012.
Skelton-Cline, who was a 2nd district National Democratic Party candidate in the November 2011 general election, is currently on a $96,000 one-year contract with Government.
Cline’s scope of works include, but are not limited to, providing of consultancy services to the Ministry of Communications and Works and the Board of the BVI Ports Authority on the proper development of the Territory’s ports.
After all the proposals have been heard, according to Hon. Vanterpool, the Ports consultant “is going to put together a summary of all the proposals and I will take them to caucus for future consideration.”
Skelton-Cline is also assessing the Jost Van Dyke, Anegada and Virgin Gorda (VG) ports.
“For the VG port we are looking in terms of separating the cargo port from the passenger port...and we are having discussions about the main cargo port,” the Minister disclosed to Virgin Islands News Online.
He added, “I am pleased with what Mr. Cline is doing, I believe he is working very diligently.”
Furthermore, Hon. Vanterpool hinted that there will be expansion to the port facility in Road Town, which will include a larger area for passengers leaving and entering the island, as well as, the addition of two Immigration Officers.
