Shooting in USVI leaves 1 dead; 16-year-old wounded
FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI — A drive-by shooting in Clifton Hill in St Croix, United States Virgin Islands (USVI) on Saturday night, July 9, 2016 left one man dead and another injured, [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (V.I.P.D.) Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced late Sunday, July 10, 2016.
According to Ms. Freeman, citing a police report, at about 9:49 p.m. Saturday the 911 emergency call center dispatched officers to Clifton Hill in response to a report of gunfire.
Upon arrival to the area, detectives discovered spent shell casings in the roadway. Ms. Freeman said a preliminary investigation revealed that assailants drove near the front of a home where several individuals were gathered and opened fire, leaving a 16-year-old minor and a 20-year-old man injured.
The adult, identified by next of kin as Timothy Urgent, died at the Juan F. Luis Hospital while being treated. Police say both men were transported to the hospital on a private vehicle.
This homicide is under active investigation, according to Ms. Freeman, and police are asking anyone with information to phone the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-712-6024 / 712-6037, 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
