Sherri Ortiz tipped to head ‘Asia House’

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Word just reaching our news desk from senior National Democratic Party (NDP) insiders, is that former Executive Director of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) International Finance Centre and a former Deputy Financial Secretary, Ms Sherri Ortiz, is expected to head the Asia House.

She will be replacing M. Ellis Donovon, who has since gone to the London House.

It remains unclear when Ms Donovon, will head the local BVI Finance operation, as the Premier’s wife, Lorna G. Smith, OBE, still occupies that post, almost two years later.

She knows the sector

Ms Ortiz is no stranger to senior government posts, having served as Deputy Financial Secretary, under L. Allen Wheatley.

The financial sector expert, Ms Ortiz, also spent five years at the helm of the International Finance Centre, now BVI Finance, before moving to establish her own business, Sterling Group BVI Ltd.

Many of the senior Government postings, such as those in both Asia and London, are seen as equivalent to that of an Ambassador and have become, "very political in their appointments," according to the same senior NDP source.
