Shakoy Lavacia charged for stabbing HMP inmate

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A young man, who was previously charged for breaking and entering the Althea Scatliffe Primary School, possession of an illegal firearm and attempted murder, has now been charged for allegedly stabbing an inmate of Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsum Ghut, on the main island of Tortola.

It has been confirmed that 22 year old Shakoy Lavacia is the one charged for attempting to murder Santo Yamaico Hernandez, the Dominican Republic national who has been rapped for the gruesome murder of Alston E. Penn.

This is just three months after he, Lavacia, allegedly almost killed Kenyatta Boynes, another inmate of Her Majesty's Prison.

From bad to worse

Meanwhile, a close relative expressed concern over the deterioration of the young man's mental state since his first experience in HMP. "From the first time he went there he was different. He come from the lesser crime to hardened criminal. It was like they trained him in there to come out here and do sh*t," said the concerned relative.

According to the woman, some “loop holes” were created by his parents but society is also to blame.

"Prison supposed to be a correctional institution and a place that should reform persons that go there, but I can't say that is happening. They need to separate certain prisoners from the hardened ones because that is where the ball fell on him," the young woman added, as she called on the new governor, Augustus J. U. Jaspert to make Her Majesty's Prison a top priority.

    And the beat goes on. I agree, the harden prisoners and the lifers should be placed in another housing unit separate from the not so hardened prisoners.

      Well in this case he attacked an accused murderer. So they would still end up in the same unit. In the other case he attacked a convicted murderer, so your suggestion won't really solve anything here...

    Yes the new governor alongside the police commissioner need to take control of the prison.. The prison also needs two dozen tactical officers to deal with inmates..as for some of the hardened criminals they need to transfer them to England.. The prison is full of weed, sunset rum, surround sound systems, big music boxes, flat screen tv's you name it..Mr. Foot cant even control noise and for those inmates that truly want to reform themselves they cant even sleep at nights much less read a book because of the noise. Mr. New Governor and The Police commissioner please tackle the prison ASAP......Prisoners were sent there to rehabilitate themselves not to have a ongoing party.

      with what man power???????? officers don't fall from the sky.. the ones that do work in the prison need to be trained just like the police department that's the only way i can see that working.

    The young man seems to be a very angry young man. They have to do something ASAP to change what is going on in prison. They have to get rid of the Prison guards male and female and get a whole new batch of prison guards. Prisoners should wear a uniform with a number.

      Nah das an extra bill on the BVI..rrstrict the colthing being sent in by locals all white tees, or gray tees only... Do a raid remove all electronic devices ps4 tvs phones and so on...call in customs with the dogs find contrabands and remove...a lot more can be done harsher punishment for prisioners think we need a dark isolation hole

      With his record of violence, it seems he will never get out of prison. Also he needs to be separate from the non-violent criminals. He appears to be angry and dangerous. Stabbing people? attempted murder, burglary of our school? Karma will get him. What goes around comes around.

      We need to pray for our youths, instead of criticizing them and putting them down. Let US ALL speak life and love into our young men and women; and help them in any which way we can. Our tongue is a weapon and we have to be careful of what we say and do. (A kind word turneth away wrath). This young man could have been our child, this young man needs someone to guide him and make him feel loved. They do need to know that we are here for them no matter what. He had a bad start and this is where we as parents come in. Instead of criticizing him call his name in prayer and ask Jehovah God to help him.
