ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A year after she became Interim-Chairman of the BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association (BVICCHA), electrical engineer, businesswoman and former political candidate, Ms Shaina M. Smith has been confirmed to the post.

The confirmation was made at the BVICCHA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held virtually on October 15, 2020.

Smith had become Inter-Chairman after Vanterpool–Bonelli, who was elected Chairman in October 2018, tendered her resignation in September 2019.

“With one other person nominated as Chairman, the businesses represented in the meeting voted to confirm Shaina Smith as the Chairman of the Chamber, a press release from BVICCHA today, October 16, 2020, stated.

It further said, when asked about her election, Chairman Smith said she was grateful for the vote of confidence by the membership and the opportunity to continue to serve the business community in this capacity.

"I am especially grateful for God's grace in every challenge the Chamber has faced over the years and I am excited about working with the new Board to further establish the BVICCHA as the Voice of Business and to empower, educate and equip businesses for success and growth."

The confirmed Chairman thanked the contributions that exiting directors made and welcomed the new members.

The new members are Kevin S. Fahie (President of Business – Caribbean Cellars), R. Averad Penn (Vice President of Business – CCT Boatphone), Doug Riegels (Vice President of Hospitality – Anegada Beach Club), Gaelle G. Maduro (Treasurer – Banco Popular), Andrew Ball (Director - Marine Association of the BVI), Neil Cline (Director - Koncepts Hospitality Consultants), Sean Palmer (Director - Aroma's Cigar and Martini Bar), and Harella Wheatley (Director – Anegada Reef Hotel).

OUT

The outgoing Officers and Directors are Lorna Christopher (Vice President of Hospitality – Maria’s by the Sea), Wendell M. Gaskin (Treasurer - S.S. Accounting & Consulting Services Ltd), Robert Knock (Director – Road Town Wholesale and Riteway Food Markets), Janet Oliver (Director – BVI Charter Yacht Society), Jerry Smith (Vice President of Business – Therapy Group International Limited), James Todman (Director – James Todman Construction), and Nona Vanterpool-Bonelli (Director – Vanterpool Enterprises).

    She is a strategic, understanding, Reasoning and no nonsense lady, No doubt she would propel this association forward, there will always be the one or two haters of progress, trouble makers...Shsna would insist Fahie sit down and hear them out...I think Fahie Respect herr enough to give her his time at the table...My one wish or hope is that for the bordres reopening, they allow all the hotels and guest houses who are willing to be apart of quarantine holdings and economic benefit process the chance to be ijspected and posted on line once pass inspection, and not government hand picking a few places of their choice, also these places should be responsible for their own security....

    I know a few of these people and 1 of them ran a business for 5 years without a profit and its a red herring and another who has run thier business into the ground over the past 2 years. These people say they represent the business community, well we really are f****d
