Several residents flee compound of COVID-19 death suspect - Hon Malone
"We are aware that a number of persons residing in the compound have since left. We implore them to call the medical hotline [852-7650] so that we can effectively have these persons examined and or questioned so that we can determine status," Hon Malone said in a statement released today.
Extended lockdown is in best interest of VI - Hon Malone
The Minister was at the time speaking at an emergency COVID-19 broadcast alongside Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) and H.E. Governor Augustus J. U. Jaspert where an extension of the current 14-day lockdown was announced by the Premier beginning today, with details to be announced.
It should be noted that as of today Saturday, the territory is still under the original mandatory 14-days COVID-19 lockdown, meaning that it is still illegal for individuals to leave the confines of their homes unless they are designated as essential workers.
'The information received so far indicate to us that it would be in the Territory’s best interest to extend the curfew period while efforts continue to track and contain possible chains of transmission" Hon Malone said.
While the case is still suspected, he revealed that all indication shows that this the 52-year-old Filipino Woman may have come into contact an overseas source of the virus.
Victim had underlying medical conditions
Hon Malone said the now dead woman was also suffered from underlying medical conditions and was being treated at the Dr. D. Orladdo Smith Hospital before she succumbed to her condition.
He said authorities are awaiting 24 result confirmations from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) that were transported by the Regional Security System aircraft and that those results are expected later this afternoon.
"These samples were taken from the patient and 22 of her immediate contacts, as well as from case #3 who is now being retested to confirm his recovery status," Hon Malone said.
He promised to bring an update on the local situation and health outlook as soon as test results are released from CARPHA.

This is a virus that can infect anyone. Some may never know they have it (asymptomatic), some may feel unwell or perhaps really sick like with flu, and sadly some will be unable to fight the virus and will succumb to it. Many of those unfortunate will be the elders among us. The ones this island can’t afford to lose. The ones with experiments, and wisdom, and common sense (not so common anymore). Irma took too many of them away. Let’s pull together as a community and protect those who are still among us. Comply with social distancing quidelines, practice scrupulous hand hygiene, don’t touch your eyes/nose/mouth/face. WASH your hands. Don’t listen to the conspiracy theorists. Don’t practice ignorance.
Protect yourself, your family, the greater community, young and old. Protect help and preserve the lives of the elders among us. We need them now, more than ever.
Cant you guys do anything right?
Jeez!
Why wasn’t there immediately locked down with shift officers soo as to avoid this
Charge them also for breaking curfew ....
They are probably more afraid of some of you in the general population and what you would do to them, than the law enforcement or government officials. The things I see in the blogs at times makes me say this cannot be the BVI of my forefathers/ancestors. What is wrong with some of you? Such anger and hatred for human kind! Do you have a soul?
The landlord should also have names.
Immigration dept should also have some ,if not all, on file and their photographs.
Publicly publush their photos and names in the media and newspaper and billboards.
Just trying...for certain ,these efforts have been made I am sure.
This is no different.
Breaking a mandated curfew and possibly infected with a contagious and potentially deadly virus fits all the bells and whistles.
Get there names and contact numbers from the landlord. The lives of everyone residing in the BVI who abided with this 24 hour curfew for weeks are at stake.
From the medical inside, people being screened are not being honest nor calling/coming forward to state there status e.g. I was one who left the compound.
At this time your honestly would be greatly appreciated for this will ensure the proper regular assessment and treatment if needed. Therefore limiting spread
It is the citizens/residents who have not played their part.
this is just another example of persons not playing their part,to keep themselves and other persons safe.

- Ignorant locals threatening to burn the apartments, scaring the inhabitants into leaving.
- Ignorant residents leaving the apartments and risking community spread due to fear of the virus/ignorant locals.
Either way, we are heading for a huge domino affect and I will only leave home as a last resort, as should everyone else.
Practically all night, even after the Premier's last advisory, scooters going back and forth in the area above the Purcell Methodist church. Too much traffic, pedestrian and vehicular in the area, day and night, and they are not all essential workers or even residents. We who live here are very concerned. We don't feel protected. Needs to have more law enforcement patrols.
Just like the school children say the this woman was are the hospital several time and was turned back and no one thought to test her. Even if they felt she was lying, once she showed symptoms why wasn't she tested? We all know what is out here in the air and people are getting sick and dying. Don't let the ways of other countries such as America be your guide cause you will have a major problem. If you following the news or have friends in America much of what is being said is people show up at the hospital with all sign of having this virus and are being sent home to die and possibly infect their family members. Don't Let The Nationality or Economical Status Be The Deciding Factor In How A Person Is Service. One Love B.V.Is
