DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI - A Long Bay Caucasian male, had to be rushed to the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital and prepared for surgery, after his scooter collided with a Kia pickup truck on the Sir Francis Drake Highway at Duff's Bottom, Tortola, in the vicinity of the old car wash.

A police source told VINO the incident occurred around after 8:30 pm on December 31, 2020, and after the accident, the rider of the scooter was allegedly observed to be combative and intoxicated when police arrived on the scene.

Reports state that the Caucasian male sustained fractures to his right arm, broken fingers and multiple abrasions to his body with lacerations to his hand and nose and had to be rushed to surgery.

Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck said he tried to avoid the collision; however, the motorcycle came from the opposite direction and still slammed into the vehicle.

It remains unclear the current condition of the rider, however, the driver of the pickup truck received a notice of intended prosecution as a result of the accident.

Why should the good scooter riders suffer for the bad ones who choose to operate in a reckless manner. It needs other solutions besides calling for a ban. Cars have fender benders everyday. Do we say ban them??

It have plenty vehicles that come around a corner on your side of the road.

If Vehicle B is coming around the corner on Vehicle A’s side of the road, why should vehicle A WHO WAS ON THEIR SIDE OF THE ROAD get a Notice of Intended Prosecution if Vehicle B slammed into Vehicle A???????

Did Vehicle B also get a Notice of Intended Prosecution?

@ What?? I quite agree with your point. I hope there was at least one witness...also its stated that the scooter rider (thankfully not more seriously hurt) was apparently intoxicated.

If the scooter driver was broken up would it be logical to take a statement at that time. Who said the cycle slammed into the vehicle, the driver. The police has to warn the driver of intended prosecution until the investigation is completed. How do you know the driver was licensed or insure. If not intended prosecution. It does not mean that he will be. Just a safe guard.

Intoxication is NO EXCUSE not to serve a Notice of Intended Prosecution.

It also states that the motorcyclist was combative, which warrants a charge.

Ayou lucky he ain't run away. That is all they do when they hit people vehicle. They get up and haul a$$.

These young boys are like loose canons. They trail vehicles on their bumpers. Find all sorts of foolish maneuvers to avoid stopping at the traffic lights. Zigzag and pop wheelies in traffic, even on the highway. 99% of them wear no helmets at all. They constantly bad drive vehicles and hurl expletives when they pass. The latest thrill is to disturb communities every day, up until the wee hours of the morning. This is what residents must put up with these days with no end in sight. SMH.

    Question: Who raise these thugs?

In excessed of twenty years ago, if I am right, crazy wreckless motorcycle riders begun their terrorizing of the B.V.I public, especially at Beef Island roadway. At that time, and saddle now it continuing to be wreckless sport that is being tolerated by both the former government leaders and those now in power. The leader are so coward that even though they are fully convinced that these wild unlawful practices are detrimentral against humans health, for the sake of gaining votes on comming election day, they talk loudly, but swing a toothpick size stick.
What if one of these crazy young riders was to run down , and kill your darling wife, your son, your daughter rather that some other person? would you still act passive? Would you? Prove yourselves worthy of your authoritative position. Understand this truth. we are not all fully blind, deaf, ignorant, and stupid. It time to slam the brakes on passivity, and act more responsibly. The rest of the world are taking note, so does the UK Government, and the next appointed Governor of the British Virgin Island.

On the road for 20 minutes and had 3 scooters wheelie past. No scooter riders with helmets. Scooter texting all the rage. 6 no helmets driving past East End Police Station. How many of these law breakers pass each day. Must be hundreds. And to top it all one snaking away at about 60 mph towards us back wheel spinning and smoking while his helmetless scooter riding friends follow along laughing. They will take this disrespect they have, for the law and people, into all other things they do for the rest of their lives. Life BVI going to go down hill fast and faster as we will be left with the ones that survive taking their lawlessness into ever more dangerous and damaging things that they do. Needed to be stopped 10 years ago. Needs to be abruptly stopped now.

Before you all start criticising and speculating about what happened, how about showing some compassion! Is the human race so dead to another human that no one cares about anyone or anything anymore? The only 2 people who know what happened in that accident are the driver of the pick up truck and the guy on the scooter and that’s it! Sure the scooters are hazardous but the driving on this island is just as hazardous, so let’s be fair! And majority of the people driving in the evening would be found to have a fair amount alcohol in their system if their blood was tested by the police and shouldn’t be driving but they do because they think they can get away with it and sadly 90% of the time they do! So don’t be so judgemental before you know all the facts!

Maybe just maybe we should hire another consultant to check into the safety advantages of driving on the right with all the left hand driving vehicles... never mind that would make sense
