ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Public officer and election staffer Ms Scherrie N. Griffin has been appointed to the post of Supervisor of Elections in the Virgin Islands (VI) effective February 18, 2021.

Ms Griffin’s appointment means the tenure of the previous Elections Supervisor, Ms Juliette Penn has come to an end in a post she has held for the past 18 years.

New supervisor welcomed

Commenting on the appointment, Deputy Governor Mr David D. Archer, Jr welcomed Ms Griffin to the role, saying that her mix of professional experience in the areas of social development, criminal justice, and elections administration make her an ideal candidate to ensure elections are accessible and conducted in accordance with the law.

“The Elections Supervisor has to fulfil the requirements of the Elections Act and the Virgin Islands Constitution and to ensure that all eligible voters can participate in the democratic process. It is no exaggeration to say that this post helps uphold our Virgin Islands democracy,” he said.

The Deputy Governor also thanked outgoing Elections Supervisor Ms Penn, whose sound guidance has brought the Territory’s elections into the technological age.

21 years in public service

Emancipate yourself from mental slavery...people can have an opinion about looks that has NOTHING to do with complexion.

Flinstone’s post is irrelevant anyway and has no substance as it relates to the appointment.

So after 18 years of excellent service, Ms. Penn just gets kicked out like that? Unceremoniously? Not even a little write up about all she did and not even a thank you for her years of service? If you can treat your own people like this, how you will treat others? No respect, honor, no sense of appreciation. This is another sad day in BVI.

It’s not fair to say she was kicked out. She has reached retirement status. Her service is greatly appreciated. You have worked extremely hard in the Public Service. This time is yours. Enjoy my dear.
