RVIPF investigating fire that destroyed 18 vehicles @ Lower Estate

LOWER ESTATE, Tortola, VI- Following the destruction of several vehicles by fire in Lower Estate, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has launched an investigation into the cause.

The fire occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, January 20, 2026, and no cause could be immediately determined by officers who attended the scene.

“Initial inquiries indicate that the blaze affected a fleet of commercial vehicles. Fourteen safari buses, two coaster buses, one small van, and an excavator were destroyed, while several additional safari buses were saved from the fire,” the RVIPF said in a January 20, 2026, press release. 

The RVIPF also confirmed there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.

Appeal for public help

The RVIPF appealed to anyone who may have information that could assist with the investigation to contact the police at 368-9339. Information may also be shared confidentially through Crime Stoppers at 800-8477.

“Further updates will be provided as necessary as the investigation continues,” the RVIPF said.

    Whoever did this, they did a hell of a job boy. I’m trying to figure out if they set multiple buses on fire and then the wind caused the fire to spread or if they lit all. Certainly this was no accident.

    This is beyond evil. May karma take care of their rotten criminal behinds. Thr owners of these taxis need to think deeply who they had any bad feelings with. This is dangerous and uncalled for. A very hateful and dangerous person who need to go to prison.

    I don’t think that the RVIPF has the capability to investigate a matter of this magnitude. I would encourage the insurance company to get their insurance investigator to look into this matter. It appears to me that this was done by a professional. The individual or individuals must have wired all these vehicles and use an explosive charge to detonate all the vehicles at the same time.
