Russia an ‘extraordinary experience’ – Sharie B.Y. de Castro
In an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online, Sharie also mentioned that, along with the many photo shoots, video shoots and interviews, she has also enjoyed several events along the way.
These include visits to Red Square, the Bolshoi Theatre and Agalarov Estate; a visit to MUZ TV for a live chat interview, the CHI Hair Show in Moscow, painting a traditional Russian doll (matryoshka) at the Miss Universe 2013 Fashion Day and the National Gift Presentation and Auction.
She cited the costume show on November 3, 2013 as a huge success and expressed confidence in her costume. “I felt very confident in my costume entitled “The Virgin Waters," a depiction of the rich marine life that exists in the British Virgin Islands,” Sharie said.
Costume design
In describing her costume, Sharie stated, the bodies of the 'Virgin Waters' are covered in mirrors, blue crystal elements, and silver coated studs draped in the front as a modern play on seaweeds floating in the ocean.
The 'Virgin Waters' was conceptualized by chaperone, Damion C. Grange and brought to life by renowned fashion designer Carlos Alberto of Puerto Rico.
The half skirt, Sharie added, hugs the waistline from the back and transforms the one-piece bathing suit in a fishtail design, flirtatiously mimicking the rhythmic movements of the ocean as its gentle wave kisses crystal sandy shores. The prongs from the back of the costume form a fan-like-curve while its vibrant colors and dangling crystals are a representation of the VI’s amazing barrier reef, which is the 5th largest in the western hemisphere.
Draped from the holder at the back, is a sand coloured material that cascades into a school of fish scale cut fabric, descending in varying shades of blue. This is also the background for a hand painted and beaded work of art, with carefully placed sea shells depicting a collage of underwater life found in the British Virgin Islands. The 'Virgin Waters' tells of the motivation behind our nickname “The Sailing Capital of the World.”
The Miss Universe contestant said she completed her interview yesterday, November 4, 2013 and noted, “The atmosphere in the room was positively charged and I felt comfortable and relaxed. I enjoyed every minute of it!”
Sharie encouraged persons to tune in to the 2013 Miss Universe Preliminary Competition online today at 12 P.M. (8 P.M. MSK) on www.missuniverse.com where all 86 contestants will compete in swimwear and evening gowns during this live stream powered by NewTek!
She also expressed gratitude to everyone in the VI and across the world for taking the time out to vote for her as the People's Choice. Voting continues until November 8, 2013.
“I encourage persons to continue to vote on missuniverse.com and telemundo.com as the winner of People's Choice will advance to the semi-finals,” Sharie stated. Persons are not limited to one vote but can vote up to 100 times per email per day.
Sharie also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the many persons who have lifted her up in prayer and who have also written very inspiring and encouraging messages on her Facebook page. “Your words truly mean the universe to me. Everyone is encouraged to follow my progress on Facebook through facebook.com/missuniversebritishvirginislands.”
She added, “I request your continued prayers as I fly our beautiful flag high in Russia. I love you BVI.”
