FISH BAY, Tortola, VI - R & T Design-Build Consultants Group officially has opened its doors to the VI market, offering extensive knowledge and services in senior project design and management services.

The office is located at Fish Bay in the same building as DHL and is ready to offer small and large clients alike a range of consultancy services to bring projects from conception to reality.

“Today is our official launch for R & T Designs, which started since 1996 and has now officially opened its doors in the Virgin Islands, letting customers know what we have to offer here in the BVI. We have a network company with [links] to the US and the Caribbean. For example, 3x3 Design headquartered in New York was also present at the launch as R & T's new design strategy and urban planning partner,” said Senior Design Manager Tony Scatliffe during the company’s launch on Tuesday July 14, 2015.

Asked what these services were, he said, “Project management, design management, urban planning and urban design.”

“What we mostly do here in Tortola is consultation. We have a client who comes in and who wants to do any work or any type of project, from as small as the change of a bedroom to as vast as a development plan. We will do a full consultation with him or her and say these are the areas where you can actually move forward based on your project type,” he said.

“We actually just guide our clients,” said Scatliffe, "We are looking at from the smallest contractor in terms of guiding him, showing him how to do large projects to a contractor who comes in and says someone known to him wants to make a development plan. We can actually guide them along the way and tell him/her what their budget should or shouldn’t be and [other variables],” he said.

“So we are looking at the small contractors as well as any other potential client that may require our expertise,” he said, adding that in a lot of situations clients come in and they don’t know how to move forward, which is where R&T Design comes in.

I wish them well. But I would like to know the qualifications of the urban planner and does anyone consider history in development any more or just building? Because good planning also includes context of neighboring and existing elements to consider, something many architects do not!

If you don't know just go to the office and see all his qualification on the walls and get references also. He worked plans for hughes industries, building hotels etc.

good to know. Now can they translate experience with building hotels and industries to a more domestic scale with heritage-influenced details. Or is it all generic glass and concrete boxes? I'm looking forward to a designer who understands actual design and not just building.

Don't mind Shaw. Do they ask these questions about the white-owned companies around here? They have made more mess in this place than any local could ever dream of. Good luck to these people with their new business.

Shaw - why don't you go and meet with Mr. Scatliffe and see for yourself? I'm sure he will answer your inquiries, then you will have enough information to make an educated response.

According to the photo, the pale lady is the urban planner. So do you all now want to see her qualifications, or do you assume she is qualified?

I am thrilled that there is another company out there looking at working with architecture. My comments were not to slam them but to look at the whole offerings around the BVI. Many architects and designers are doing their own thing as monuments to themselves instead of looking at context of site. This tends to be a problem in general. Unfortunately, building hotels and industries are different than building residences and domestic structures. As for @facts-- why is race a factor in this discussion of good design? I know many horrible white designers (including Nanny Cay). Too bad some locals want to follow in their footsteps because it seems "worldly". I would have the same hope with anyone.
