ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Virgin Islands Rotarians rallied around plans for Rotary International 7020 District Conference 2013 (RDC 2013) on Thursday October 11, 2012 at a joint meeting of the three Rotary Clubs.

Enthusiasm was high as approximately 120 Rotarians participated and heard more of the plans for RDC 2013, and were encouraged to lead the way as the VI hosts its first Rotary District Conference.

Rotarians and Guests heard directly from District Governor Vance Lewis that interest in attending RDC 2013 is very high throughout the District. According to DG Vance, there is keen interest by many of the Rotarians with whom he has met as he tours the District.  This interest could be seen in the 100 plus Rotarians and guests already registered for Rotary District 7020 Conference to be held in the VI during the week of May 13, 2013.

The call for Rotarians to work hand in hand and pull out all the stops for District Conference 2013 was echoed by several speakers including RDC 2013 Fundraising Co-Chair, Rosemary Flax who stated that District Conference 2013 is much more than Rotary and much more than District Governor Vance but It is also about the VI and making the VI proud when its hosts the District Conference.

It was also noted that the support of the VI community is crucial to the success of RDC 2013. In addition to seeking financial and in kind support from businesses and the general public for this conference, it is extremely important that the anticipated 500 plus guests are made to feel welcomed by all.  Also very importantly, the District Conference Committee is considering how the general public might be able to participate in some aspects of this historic event.

One of the hallmarks of Rotary District Conferences is “Home Hospitality”, which promotes understanding and peace through friendship.  This is where visiting Rotarians and guests are invited to dine at the homes of fellow Rotarians and or friends of Rotary of the host country, to get firsthand experience of some of the local culture. VI Rotarians, who have experienced the pleasure and satisfaction of this long Rotary tradition in other countries, are keen to ensure that this is one of the “wow factors” of Rotary District Conference 2013.

Rotary District Conference 2013 Chair, David Archer has vowed that with the VI Family of Rotary leading the way, all Rotarians and guests will indeed “Experience the Passion of Rotary” right here in the VI when the Family of Rotary hosts the British Virgin Islands’ first Rotary District Conference.
