ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Moments ago, August 4, 2013, Rosanna Chichester was crowned Miss British Virgin Islands 2013/14 when the prestigious pageant was staged at the Multi-Purpose Complex.

Miss Chichester blew away the audience and obviously the judges and walked away with nearly all of the individual prizes including for Miss Poise, Miss Popularity, Best BVI Promotion, Best Swim Wear, Best Cultural Costume, Best Evening Wear and Miss Intellect.

The First Runner-Up is Miss Brianna Henley, who also won the prize for Best Interview.

Mekyla Phillips took the Miss Congeniality prize.

Miss BVI 2012/13 Sharie B. deCastro was on hand to crown the new queen. Rosanna Chichester now becomes an ambassador of the Territory.

While the queen would not be receiving a car as one of her take home prizes, she will enjoy, among several other things, one year subscription of Times Magazine, a trip to an international pageant, travel to Germany with the BVI Tourist Board and a scholarship.

The four contestants for this year's pageant were Raemona Maloney, Brianna Henley, Mekyla Phillips and Rosanna Chichester.

That last name CH IC GESTER is so strange it’s not an indigenous name I event can’t pronounce it
    • @-------------- (05/08/2013, 09:50) Like (31) Dislike (14) Reply
While I take your point that Chichester is not a traditional BVI name, there are no indigenous names in the BVI -- Smith, Malone, Maduro, Pickering, Penn, Henley, Todman, etc. etc. were all names given to our enslaved ancestors by their slave masters. Let's stop tearing ourselves apart -- we keep doing such a good job of destroying ourslves from within that we really don't need anyone from outside to do it for us!!!
      • Hmm (05/08/2013, 12:16) Like (5) Dislike (27) Reply
I agree with most of the comment, but don't cloud the position. Chichester is not a traditional one irregardless to how the others became so. Was Chichester on the list? No. Traditonal are Smith, Malone, Maduro, Pickering, Penn, Henley, Todman, Frett, Thomas, Scatliffe, Hodge, Lettsome, George, Leonard, Jennings, etc, etc,..... and yes, we are all Caribbean people so why do we destroy each other. But, don't mix oil with water.

U down island people so stupid no wonder u have to go afar after letting u own stupidity ruin you massive natural resources. Then u com to bvi to haul us down justifying u nonsense. When the asians spaniards Europeans came to the bvi much of what we have was not here, but our people toiled this land for us not for u and YES they were the wonderful names you named. But a fool like you will come to our bvi house to make us think what's ours is yours. Well it is not. When you go back-home loking for u rights and others done on u LAND land u buy with bvi money, we will hear bout u comments when them tell you u ain't born with that land. Johnny come lately will never have same rights here. BAM

Just get over it the BVI has a mix culture just accept that those indigenous name may not always be heard in the lime light. And rest assured one day a non indigenous name will be the Premier.
Go Rosie I know you will be a true ambassador for BVI.
      We love you!!

Simple thing for you here was to go look up the word. In the simplest words it means you're born to parents from/of the BVI.

        SPELLING CLASS IN SESSION
        CH IC GESTER - Chichester
event - in this context "even"
        com - come
        loking - looking
        SNITH - Smith
        WHEALEYS - Wheatleys
        inddienous - indigenous
bottoms - in this context "buttons"
thumps - in this context "thumbs"

Note if you check your BVI history correctly Fonseca is actually of Kittitian origin, and Hodge is of Anguillan origin. Therefore in a few generations Chichester just might make the list!
