NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI - Employees at the Oil Nut Bay resort on Virgin Gorda, Virgin Islands (VI) have been reportedly told to get vaccinated by April 30, 2021, or face possible repercussions from the company.

This announcement reportedly came via an email circular to employees seen by Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) and made by the Vice President of Operations, Mr Daniel Reid.

“I would like to announce that we are looking forward to everyone having completed their first COVID-19 vaccination by April 30th,” the email said.

No liability for unvaccinated employees - Email Circular

The Vice President, Mr Reid, did not reply to inquiries from VINO to shed some light on the policy; however, employees were also reportedly threatened that repercussions will come should they not get vaccinated.

“The company will not be able to carry the liability for employees who choose not to be vaccinated after this date,” Reid went on to say.

“Going forward from May 1, we will have to adjust our schedule for those that have not been vaccinated. Please be guided accordingly,” the email said in closing.

Vaccination not mandatory - Gov't

VINO reached out to Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) for comments on whether the policy could be violating the VI Labour Code; however, no response was received up to publication time.

Section 135 of the VI Labour Code, 2010 states, among other things, that: (1) An employer at any workplace including a construction site shall ensure that, (a) a safe, sound, healthy and secure working environment is provided as far as is reasonably practicable; (b) the measures and procedures prescribed by the Code and the Regulations are carried out; (c) every supervisor and every employee performing work complies with the Code and the Regulations; (d) every reasonable precaution is taken in the circumstances for the protection of a worker; (e) reasonable precaution is taken in the circumstances to protect the general public who comes into contact with the work site…”

While the Government has been pushing for the vaccination for frontline workers like those in the hospitality services sector, health authorities were clear that vaccination was not mandatory.

    TESTING ON HUMANS

In the UK, there were reports of 79 serious blood clots alongside low blood platelet counts. Nineteen of those people died as of March 31, the country's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said. Some of these deaths may have already have been calculated in the earlier EMA analysis.

    CONTINUED BLOOD CLOTS

EMA concluded on Wednesday that the vaccine had caused an unusual combination of blood clots with low counts of blood platelets in dozens of people. It had analyzed 62 cases of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), which is clotting in the sinuses that drain blood from the brain, and 24 cases of splanchnic vein thrombosis, or clotting in the abdomen, in people who had received the shot as of March 22. Of those cases -- reported from an area where around 25 million people total had received the AstraZeneca vaccine at that point -- 18 were fatal.

STILL UNSURE SINCE STILL TESTING ON HUMANS WHO IT MOSTLY HARMS

Without age and sex data, it's not known if the risk is higher or lower for particular groups, it said. The overall rate could also change upwards or downwards, as more people are vaccinated and a clearer picture emerges.

UK health authorities had clearer data on age than sex, saying Wednesday that there was a slightly higher incidence of these blood clotting events in younger adults compared to older ones.

BRITAIN UNSURE OF IT SO GIVING ALTERNATIVES

That's why Britain took the decision to give people under age 30 alternatives to the AstraZeneca vaccine.

FAMILY PATTERN OF BLOOD CLOTS / LIFESTYLE / MEDICATION

Blood clots are common, and a significant portion of the population is already more predisposed to develop them as a result of underlying conditions, genetics, lifestyle or other medication they're taking.

But the blood clots that authorities are seeing as unusual are specific severe clotting around the brain and abdomen, and are accompanied by low counts of blood platelets. This is an unusual combination because platelets typically help the body's blood clot in a good way, to stop bleeding, for example. Usually high platelet counts and severe clotting go together.

Surely the policy would be keeping in line with the labour code as it would protect those employees that are genuinely unable to receive the vaccine along with the general public.

Why should my health be put at risk because someone would rather believe social media nonsense and refuse to take a vaccine that is proven to reduce the effects of COVID? These islands are heading for a reckoning when the cruise ships come back and a large proportion of the population remain unvaccinated

      Lucifer,
How is the vaccine preventing one from infection of the virus. I have seen many comments ,many which do not make any sense, but use words interchangeable to provide a narrative that sooth the thoughts of slow thinkers. I really want to know if I get the vaccine, would I not get infected, if I don't get the vaccine would I get infected. I am not positive for the virus, but have diabetes, would any underlying disease , virus, bacteria, fungus etc. become worst if I get the vaccine. How is it that not getting the vaccine a factor that will contribute to the person who have the vaccine that should prevent them from getting sick or getting the infective virus?

I cannot say to my staff don't or do get the vaccine until I understand the madness of this suddenly business policy that is assume to prevent the one from becoming sick with a virus. Then I would also like to know all the other diseases , virus, bacteria, fungus etc. that infect an individual, so I can write up the policy of the business and ask them to get vaccinated. They will probably be in hospital three quarters of their working days standing inline to be vaccinated.

The policies of labour department are very broad, the word "stay safe" can mean many things in a work place, when examine closely. You wear hard hat on the construction site, you wash your hands often, you cover your mouth when sneeze .But have anyone on the worksite constantly wiping the tools off after usage. I observe that the banks have people wiping constantly the area a person use at the teller station, but they use the same cloth to wipe over and over on the same surface, without changing the cloth. How is that prove to be healthy, to stay safe, its not prevention until the cloth is then change after every usage.

Some busineses use the COVID-19 to get rid of their employees, and use others to become employed that was of their first choice and then when they don't get their way with the work permit approval, they use the slang" am going to move by business else where" some business need to actually go, from they way they use their staff, disrespecting them, shouting on them and the name calling is like oblivious of what they are doing, or do they. The actual care of some business they meant well for their staff and want the best for them, so if they find areas that are not so conducive to people contact and are willing to place their staff there. Giving a deadline to your staff for COVID is like suicide for your business.

Share your thouhgts am willing to listen so I can learn.

Sure Pfizer, because it is a sophisticated European environment in a concentrated area with good refrigeration infrastructure. Tell me how you transport stuff out to Anagada at minus 70 degrees that Pfizer requires. . Look at the UK , the most common vaccine was AZ. Some Pfizer. No difference in the results.

The vaccine does not 100% protect from infection and I do not believe any of the manufacturers have suggested that but what it is very effective at is preventing those people that do get infected from ending up in hospital. This is important as if I need a cancer op or organ transplant, the hospital beds are not being taken up with COVID patients. Other than people with allergies, Im not aware of the vaccine causing any issues for people with underlying conditions. Given that those with underlying health issues have been prioritized for vaccination in every country, it would have become very apparent if it was causing major side effects with their existing conditions.

If restaurants suddenly stopped mandating that staff maintain hygiene and keep away from work when ill they would be getting sued for millions for not taking steps to protect both other staff members and customers. This is the same.

Mr. Ried is not making it mandatory that you get the jab, only the government can do that.
Mr. Ried, as a private business owner, determined that his business relies on the health and safety of his guests and employees.
If you, ad an employee do not want the vaccine, don't take it, but don't expect to return to work as a potential health threat to others.

So the same tourists bringing the CCPVirus, are the same people demanding BVI businesses are vaxxinated? When are the Scientists going to admit, the vaxxination, is not a vaxxination, but rather a flu shot, that does not stop the contraction of the Covid19 or the transmission of the same? BVI was Covid 19 free, until people entering the country brought it here. They can come, but please don't act like the people of the BVI are the carriers of Covid19.

I’m sick of the ghetto uneducated people. When will they realized the world has changed? The last time the world changed was September 11, 2021? No one liked the new rules and policies that was laid out but as time move it the policies become normal.

A lot of the people who’s complaining about this vaccine actually are past vaccine victims. If it wasn’t for the vaccine years ago a lot more people would have die. I don’t know why people trying to make themselves sounds good? Sounding good and what it are two different things!

All those who for no vaccine would still have raw sex with someone they just met after a club jam! Those same people for no vaccine will smoke weed from a Hustler they just met today! Those same people for no vaccine will fly to another country and buy food from a food truck they just herd about yesterday.

If you look for negative in anything including the BIBLE you will find it. If you looking for the good and positive you’ll find out. There’s more good being done vs bad. Just like the best of humans; the negative post always get the most attention.

I just got a new job “ one thousand like and three thousand comments wishing me the best”

I just began my own company “ 3 likes 1 comment “good luck”

The same people who keep saying they’re not forcing people to take or not take it are mentally still bullying others to do otherwise.

Vaccine doesn’t stop Covid just like riding someone just just met after a VIBE jam with a condom doesn’t stop STD/ HIV; but with the Condom your just bit more safer.

Honestly if technology; whatapp, Facebook etc was around when we was going primary school 25+ years ago; a lot of our parents might have avoided the flu shot or vaccine that would have had a negative effect on the world community.

The world has changed. Except it or not! It doesn’t care what you think. You can’t and will not get on most airplanes without it. You can’t get certain businesses without it. The false hearsay that’s going around by people who haven’t spent an hour studying health knows all the answers but can’t fix the most simple things around them.

The BVI is a very fragile community. You’ll watching St. Thomas everyday and just admiring the airplanes like who want to fly in a box that’s all COVID???! You’ll really want to fly in an airplane with people from all over the world not knowing what they have or not?

I highly recommend you’ll stop looking at Facebook and WhatsApp for info and just google for yourself. Do your own research and if you can’t read your phone can read the info to you.

You don’t have to believe in the TSA or not but they’re rules still stand. Take off hat, shoes, belt, leave the bottle of water behind etc. if don’t like to rules don’t used the service that’s being provided.

Also to the no vaccine massive; the next time you get a toothache don’t go to any dentist and used your natural remedies because what the dentist give you to mum your gum is worse then the vaccine and if you’ve been to the dentist and talking no vaccine your a poppy show.

The world has changed; get with it or get behind the line. Who want it let them have it and who don’t leave them alone. A lot of you’ll BVI Islanders who outside the BVI talking will get stuck in someone else’s country and it will be you’ll fault. I rather be home in my country talking piss than in someone else country especially in the UK or USA.

The issue in the BVI ain’t the vaccine but it’s the people who hype up and protect criminals. Just last night a drive by shooting. One mentioned of the turn-up Committee blaze shot after another member of the turn-up Committee & everyone playing blind. We have an issue in the BVI and it’s not the vaccine, Covid or the Government but it’s the citizens of this community.

Take the vaccine and move on or don’t and move on. Sick of the bullying to take it or not take it.

The ones who take it will have an effect good or bad and those who don’t likewise. Everyone experience would be different.

To those Rastaman who always talking: ah yo always talking about going to Africa; before you go to Africa you must have a medical exam; you have to take shots and drugs; if you don’t you’re putting yourself in serious danger. But unless you have your own private way there’s no way you’ll get there. All them Rastaman that been Africa all took the injections on their left butt cheeks already.

If a job charge it’s police and your not for it; move on. It’s the people them company. It have people who’s been vaccinated and would love that job. Stop being an ostrich and understand the world has changed once again. It’s not the 1st and won’t be the last. You’ll trust everything besides God.

Who said God ain’t bless someone with a vision to used the ingredients of the earth to create this one thing that can help us? Who said the devil ain’t the one day don’t take it it’s poison? No that doesn’t sound right? Right? From ain’t don’t make sense it’s not true correct? Some of you’ll need to start looking for information for you’ll self and stop letting others pressuring you to do either or.

I hate to comrade C***y but I give big ups where it’s due - a lot of people who’s saying don’t take the vaccine already did and a lot of people who saying them ain’t take it already made plans to do so.

The same thief who stole your gold chain will be the one helping you to look for it. Humans are a unique species.

Now compare your picked headlines with a MILLION people DEAD without the vaccine and 37 dead that could be linked to the vaccine.

But your family member could be the one dead from the vaccine! In BVI one death from the vaccine is too much. Maybe the anti vaxers just need another option than the Oxford vaccine. There are at least three more options on the market. Govt only pushing the one causing blood clot.
But remember there will always be someone who can't take it due to health reasons do we force them to an early death too?

There is no evidence that blood clots are caused by the AZ virus. The number of blood clot cases is exactly the same as would be expected in the unvaccinated population. BVI does not have the infrastructure to handle vaccines needing minus 70 degrees to store.

Mr Reid speaking as a true Tolan, you are not from here. Tell me and I demand an answer. I am not against your policy but if I as a member of your staff take the vaccination and encounter repercussions would your company accept liability. I await your answer before further comment.

The one thing holding back our economy is opening up more freely to tourism. If we get vaccinated then we can open, simple. If you work in the tourism industry and refuse to take the vaccine then you are directly affecting the company you work for. Give those jobs to people who want what’s best for for our country.

Much ado and long talking about nothing. It's simple, if anyone feels that they need protection from COVID, just go get vaccinated. Why this fuss about forcing others to get vaccinated?
This whole style of leadership and business is reminiscent of a colonial invasion/Civilisation of the "uncivilized"..Even their religion they brought and forced on others. SMH.
To those people going out of their way to make decisions on other people's lives y'all need to respect the basic human rights of others. All persons who feel threatened and needs protection, go get your vaccine, let others make their own choice. You can't rightly force, threaten or coerce others to make decisions about their own health, especially when you or any of the experts"

.... especially when you or the "experts" do not yet understand all associated risks.
They should admit openly that this vaccination campaign is indeed in phase of human trials.
Y'all better relax and understand your rights do not include infringing on the rights of others.
The natural recovery rate for COVID 19 is at 99%, have you ever stopped to consider why you need to get vaccinated for such a disease?
Let ppl make they're own choices please.

Ideally, we’d all like to just have benefactors put unlimited amounts of money in our bank accounts. But that’s not how it works. Instead, we get jobs and do what is asked of us so we can get paid. In many instances, working conditions may present a hazard that employers are required to address, per BVI Labor code. With the COVID virus, infected employees can now introduce a hazard into workplaces that an employer is supposed to control to protect uninfected employees who could then infect loved ones when they get home. How is that good for anyone? So, the question is how to deal with this. If we don’t require immunizations, then workplaces could be shut down when illness breaks out, so everybody loses and potentially we strain our medical resources, extend the pandemic and create opportunities for more variants to evolve. If we do require it (as for example in schools for our children), then people bug out because of very small risks of potential adverse effects rather than considering the benefits (employment as well as significant reduction in the risk of death or serious disease, and slowing the spread of the virus). Choosing a zero risk solution (shut down, isolation, and no vaccine) is not going to work out well in the long run. In life, we all end up having to do things we’d rather not at some point because the benefits outweigh the risks. IMHO, it’s our civic and moral duty to get the vaccine for the greater benefit of our community to get the pandemic behind us just like it is to vaccinate our kids so they can go to school. Every medication and treatment out there as downside risks whether we like it or not.

But the vaccine does not stop the person from getting or giving COVID19.

Ahhhh. Yes, it does. Read the CDC findings instead of internet rumors.
A vast majority of vaccinated people can not catch or transmit.
