DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI: A few months following two Category 5 Hurricanes that destroyed the Virgin Islands, the Water and Sewerage Department placed a stand pipe in Duff’s Bottom adjacent to the New Life Baptist Church so residents can have access to water.

It supplied water not only to residents of the immediate areas, but others who will stop in the area from time to time to obtain water, as many houses are still as of today July 3, 2018, roofless therefore not allowing them to harness cistern water.

In some areas, the government water supply is still not available, because of broken pipes, destroyed reservoirs, no pumps and challenges to desalination plants after the National Democratic Party (NDP) Government frustrated the Biwater project.

Water pipe gone with the win!

It was last Friday June 29, 2018 that many residents called our news room to report that the water pipe was shut off and removed by the Water and Sewerage Department meaning residents without water at their homes can no longer have access.

It is unclear the reason why the water access was shut off.  Director of Water and Sewerage Perline Scatliffe-Leonard could not be reached for comments up to post time.

Some residents said with the water pipe gone, it has placed them in hardship and they needed more time to fix their roofs,  so they can harness cistern water or even use drums.

They believe the NDP government has not been sensitive to their needs.

Ok, fine, they remove and took the pipe away, however, Water and Sewage should have put out some type of notice explaining that the water service is being terminated.

What more can be placed on the poor people? Someone told me today they were moving to Arizona because they are tired of fighting just to live. They never got the promised Grant money to replace their roof, no water, no job that was lost, poor school unsafe for children, neighbors stealing every time they go out and watching them, enough is enough. They are going to help run the family business abroad who they will be partners. Letting someone stay in the house here for small rent, so they can secure it. This is so sad.

Unfortunate but the location seemed like it was encouraging a serious traffic accident to happen. But worse than that was to see grown men stop there to wash their vehicles with water provided for the needy. Shame shame shame!!!

The rotten apples ruin it for the people who needed it most by taking advantage of the situation. The rotten apples started acting like it was a open free car wash. Don't blame the Government for this, blame the people who took advantage.
