ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Complete with a new look Logo the organizers of the Deloitte and Ogier 8th BVI Half Marathon have announced that race registration is now open.

The event is scheduled for November 30, 2013 with a start time of 6.00am and has an early registration fee of $50, which increases to $55 from November 2, 2013 and to $60 on race day.

The Deloitte & Ogier BVI Half Marathon is sanctioned by the BVI Athletics Association and is run under the rules of the World Governing body, the IAAF. The race is open to all athletes born before 1995.

In addition to the new look logo the organizers have also announced that dri-fit technical shirts and new bespoke collectors finisher medals will feature in this year’s event and that the Registration fee also includes breakfast and race refreshments.

The Half Marathon starts and finishes on the Mondo Track in Roadtown and has male and female categories as well as separate Power Walkers and Relay sections and the awards for each will be given out at the end of the event.

Runners are also being reminded that although the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force will be on hand, the route is on open roads and all due care and attention should be taken as to respecting other traffic on the roads. Runners are also responsible for knowing and sticking to the route and not going round the “turn cone” of deviating from the course can result in disqualification.

Numbers must also be worn and visible at all times.

Prize money is also on the table with a bonus of $500 if anyone beats the course record of 1 hour, 7 minutes and 38 seconds. The winners of both the Male and Female categories also get $500, whilst the winners of the Veterans run and the Power Walker’s get $150.

St. Thomas’ duo of Shane DeGannes and Ruth Ann David, packed a 1-2 punch to win the men’s and women’s divisions of the Ogier/Deloitte 7th BVI Half Marathon in 2012.

DeGannes sprinted to the lead from the start and ran unchallenged, en route to a winning time of 1 hour 25 minutes and 00 seconds, in the race that attracted over 75 participants for the first time in its history.

David, who overhauled three male counterparts, came up .10 seconds short of taking down Meriel Steadman’s 2011 course record when she ran 1:34.19 to finish behind DeGannes. It was the first time in race history that no records were established in the 13.1 mile race on Tortola’s south coast roads.
