ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Assistant Manager at the Department of Waste Management, Mr Neville Allen has said that access to the Pockwood Pond incinerator will be limited to 4:00 pm daily in an effort to control the practice of indiscriminate dumping.

Mr Allen said the department is faced with the problem of unsupervised private garbage haulers dumping waste at the site after workers leave at the end of the workday.

He said this practice is causing pockets of fires at the site and haulers will not be allowed access to the site beyond 4:00 pm in an effort to curtail these occurrences.

Mr Allen said the gate will be closed and only compactor trucks will be allowed access up to 8:00 p.m. He added that the public will be notified when the site will be accessible during normal hours of operation after the situation is under control.

The Ministry of Health and Social Development aspires to provide a caring and integrated system of health and social services that facilitates human development and quality of life in the [British] Virgin Islands.
