Ralph O’Neal on replacement – That’s a difficult person to find!

- Says he is conscious that he is "not here to mind the world"
Former Premier now Opposition Leader Hon. Ralph T. O'Neal says a replacement as Party Leader is a difficult person to find.
The three elected members of the VIP, who are likely to be front runners to head the party are: Left to Right 1st District Rep. Andrew Fahie, 3rd Distrct Rep. Julian Fraser and 2nd District Rep. Alvin Christopher.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – As questions continue to be raised as to who will take over as Leader of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), from Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE he himself is admitting that such a person is difficult to find.

In an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online, O’Neal who is now the Opposition Leader following his party’s 9-4 defeat at the November 7, 2011 polls by the National Democratic Party, was asked who he had in mind to replace him as Leader of the party when he steps down.

“That’s a difficult person to find you know, because you might be a leader and you will be doing what you think is your best and even those you are leading would criticize and say this man don’t know what he is doing and so on and so on. So that person is a very difficult person to find,” the former Premier told this news agency.

He admitted that such a “man or woman” will have to be “thick skinned”.

“You have to withstand a lot and put up with a lot of jealousy and what not. So the person has to be a well-rounded person in the art of dealing and handling people. Has to know when to drop back, you have to know when to go forward, you have to know when it’s time to put your foot down.”

Asked if there is anyone in the party who he thinks has the potential to fill that capacity, Hon. O’Neal said he will leave that decision up to Congress as he would not want for anyone to think that he forced anything upon them.

“What I will tell you I will take an example when certain people are needed to do certain things; everybody is an expert in it and would want to try it. So I leave it to Congress to make up their minds.”

Many have been calling for Hon. O'Neal to step down as Party Leader and even retire from politics citing his age and health.

Regarding his current tenure as Opposition Leader which is for 18 months, the 9th District Representative said, “Congress will make some decisions at some point” but he is also conscious of the fact that “I am not here to mind the world”.

“… and at some time, God spared my life. I might want to go, to do other things to rest, and take a trip to one or two countries that I would like to see. And you know there will be a replacement, as to when that will be I cannot say at this time. It is a matter that will have to go before the party congress.”

The four re-elected members of the Virgin Islands Party are: 9th District Representative and Opposition Leader Hon. O’Neal; along with the three likely front runners to head the party, 1st District Representative Hon. Andrew Fahie, 2nd District Representative Hon. J. Alvin Christopher and 3rd District Representative Hon. Julian Fraser.

Now I can deal with someone else forsure to become the leader of the party but none of the 3 are fitted to become the leader. Perhaps them vote for Dancia to become the party's leader?

Fraser? HAHAHAAH!! Please do it PLEASE put Fraser as leader of the VIP!!! That would mean 12-16 or even more years of NDP or another party, not VIP for sure!! Nobody with any common sense would want to be a part of a party with Fraser as a leader!!!! LOL!! It won't happen! Get used to the opposition if you put Fraser as leader! I think Fahie is the best of the bunch, he has a few issues, but is the lesser of the three evils LOL!! Why do you think Ralph isn't stepping down?? He knows hell will broke loose and it will be the end of VIP, that's why he's holding it together with all his might! I actually feel sorry for him!!

You NDP should stay out of VIP affairs. Your ever blog has been anti VIP, now you want to come on here making choices for the VIP. Look at your blogs, even on subjects that are totally unrelated to Fraser, you find a reason to blame him, or somehow interject him. You didnt get OJ to beat him so live with that. You all did what ever yo could to undermine Fraser, but God is good. So keep your 2 cents and and spend them elsewhere.

Fraser? Lord- This is the man i saw with my own eyes while getting off the boat from st.thomas got in front of every body else I mean - just cut in-front of the line while the rest of us had to stand in line. I didn't know who he was so i had to ask and it was just few weeks shy of the elections. Worst of all people just saw this as something normal. Fraser, please show some humbleness next time.

NDP to the bone, but for everyone's information, any politician, regardless of whatever side has the luxury of not waiting in line. It IS their privilege; however, they should be a little more humble and graceful with it. Again, that is their right, they are our leaders. Can you see Obama waiting in line for anything???

You got that right. That is vintage Fraser, as rude and as arrogant as they come. He corners the market on arrogance and full of himself (narcissistic). He is an intelligent man but that is overshadowed by his arrogance. Can you imagine him as Premier? Never will that happen. Now to Mr. O'Neal. All of you who are supporting him as leader of the VIP are just like him; no vision. He has served well and should leave the stage for the sake of his party and the people of the Virgin Islands He has no fresh ideas and does not allow for fresh ideas to emerge. The VIP needs a complete overhaul. It needs to be purged from top to bottom before it can contest any future election. Here's my take. Minus Vincent (the waste) , minus Vernon (no conviction), minus Alvin (the opportunist and other waste ); minus Flax (all talk no substance). Now we are left with Fahie, Fraser, and Dancia (who will no longer be associated with the band of crooks) Irene, and Zoe and Juggy. Dancia was hoodwinked and I’m sure she knows that now. She is a nice person but nice doesn’t cut it. Truth be told she really did not perform, but the same can be said of most of the members of the VIP. Even with Ralph O' Neal gone the core of the VIP still is porous. Zoe is not bad but fell prey to the same silly "blame game" tactics as her colleagues. She needs to stop towing the line and chart her own course and make her mark. With that said, she would have to have like minded people. Juggy is neither loyal nor true and has neither courage nor convictions. Irene can stand on her own and does not need to follow the misdirected lead of Fahie and Fraser. The picture that is developing here is a VIP with few of the remnants of the old party. Anything else is unacceptable. When you have a slogan like "forward ever, backwards never" you are supposed to show the way forward. First by having forward thinking people, and second, by having progressive ideas and doing things that are forward looking. The problem with the VIP is this, they were walking backwards while shouting "forward ever, backwards never. You cannot look back and still see the future, you will be staring at your past and your past will be following you. Last but not least, they need to distance themselves from the likes of Carvin .

M Marion, your piece about Fraser is a classic case of BVI ignorance, and in particular, bias against Fraser. Legislators has a privelidge when travelling not to have to wait in line, but when Fraser goes to the head of the line it is arogance, when Dr Smith does it it is ok. This hatred for Fraser needs to stop, and you people need to get a life, and move to hell on. The people of the 3rd has decided that he is their Representative and you can't do a thing about it but watch. Hating on the man can't help.

Andrew needs to cross the floor and leave the 3 Muskeeters on the opposition fighting each other for the leader position. Andrew, you are too good to stay with the VIP
