Pure Playaz too tricky for Hon. Fraser's Rebels!

On Saturday May 27, 2012, the Rebels with the Honourable Julian Fraser urging them on were able to put up a good defensive show, but were undone by their faster opponents as the game wore on which was won by Pure Playaz. Photo: VINO

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Even with long time Basketball fan and sponsor, the Honourable Julian Fraser RA, in attendance, the shorthanded Rebels from Sea Cows Bay couldn’t get their season going Saturday night May 26, 2012, finishing up with a 86-73 defeat to the Pure Playaz in the BVI Basketball Federation (BVIBF) Summer League.

The score at 11-11 was as close as the game got and that was early in the first quarter as the Playaz capitalised on the lack of reserves on the Rebels’ bench to play an energy sapping quick transition game.

The Playaz scored nine straight either side of the first quarter buzzer as the Playaz turned a three-point edge into a double-digit lead.

Despite a lack of replacements and with the urging of Hon.Fraser, the Rebels had one last chance in the 4th quarter as they made a 3-pointer to cut it to seven points. However, it was too little too late and the final margin of 13 points gave the Playaz a comfortable victory.

In other games, the Heat from Virgin Gorda proved too hot to handle for the ESHS Rams, but only just.

Although the final score was 34-30, the Rams missed a couple of key free throws and lost possession on a final attack just when it looked like they were capable of at least forcing overtime.

The evening’s second game was an exciting encounter between the Young Gunners and the Skulls with the Gunners out shooting their opponents to win 81-79.

The fast pace of the Skulls attack caused problems all night for the Gunners’ defense, but also led to several turnovers and missed opportunities which allowed the Gunners to stay in touch with the score and eventually run out the winners.

The first quarter ended 19-18 to the Gunners, the second 37-36 and the third 54 each to set up a thrilling climax.

The Skulls went ahead by one with 30 seconds left, but then missed two free throws. From the resulting possession, the Gunners made no such mistake from the free throw line to secure victory.

So what's your point? You have been going to Basketball for years and how many teams have you sponsored? Hon Fraser has been a major contributor to all sports for the 13 years he has bee in office, (not 4 years) doo doo. He has also built softball fields and basketball courts in his District.

You all give my boy Rojar a break!!! Most coaches would agree that one of the best yardsticks for determining a team's success is the level of improvement achieved by that team. Improvement is a mark of a good team. You are either getting better or you are getting worse.....now the question is, are the two loosing teams getting better or worse????

most of us who follow basketball and politics would remember when President Barack Obama explained the intricacies of basketball to David Cameron the UK Prime Minister on a trip to a match in Ohio tis year as the two leaders showed off their "special relationship" to the world. Well at least Mr. Fraser is getting ready for when he becomes Premier and has to host a big name world leader he can take them to a basket ball game and show them a thing out two.
