FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI — A corrections officer in the US Virgin Islands (USVI) was on Friday November 11, 2016 detained by another corrections officer and later arrested by police at the Golden Grove Correctional Facility on St Croix after she was found to be in possession of prison contraband, to include marijuana, a cellphone and cellphone charger, as well as drug paraphernalia.

This is according to [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Public Information Officer Glen Dratte.

The suspect, 29-year-old Falak Umrani hid the items on her person and in her bag, according to Mr Dratte. She attempted to smuggle into the prison approximately 1.5oz (45 grams) of marijuana.

Bureau of Corrections Director Rick Mullgrav said the prison has seen increased security under his leadership, and decried such behaviour at the facility.

“This kind of behaviour is most unfortunate and is not going to be tolerated,” he said. “We have taken significant steps in recent months to prevent contraband from entering our prisons.”

Ms Umrani was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending her advise-of-rights hearing.

If the authority is to clean out the prisons around the territories you will be surprised at what one will find. The other day Prison Head Junie"Scrape" Hodge had a scraping at the prison in SKB as it was in the news but that wasnt even enough as later they still found stuff back into the prison. So therefore no matter what is done contrabands will still find they way back in.Most of the times the workers or staff are/is responsible for such. I wonder if my family did such while working there. I hope she conscious clear as a so called christian. As a people we have to be true to ourselves as it is God gonna judge us all for our actions.

As you may have read, that under their new leadership, the security has been increased. Therefore more scrutiny has been done with what are brought into the institution. That's what needed to be done at HMP, but to do that, they have to start cleaning out the dishonest staff and anytime thereafter any staff been caught jeopardizing the system call in the police to deal with them if they need to be charge criminally. Then the court must follow through and sentence their ASS into the same institution for however long the sentence is. A strong message must be sent.
