ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Following the controversial early send-off of Mrs Sharon P. Flax-Brutus as the Director of the BVI Tourist Board (BVITB), six months before her intended date of departure, Premier and Minister with the portfolio for Tourism, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) said he has requested a ‘full report’ from the Tourist Board on the matter.

Flax-Brutus tendered her resignation last week Friday, May 15, 2020 with her resignation to take effect in November 2020 but the Board decided her last day on the job was May 20, 2020.

“First of all, I want to thank Mrs Flax-Brutus for the hard work she put in for the eight years. I definitely respect [that] and thanks for all the positive contributions. The Board has dealt with it independent of myself, and I have asked for a full report on it, and they are supposed to be giving me the report hopefully by tomorrow,” Premier told members of the media on Thursday, May 21, 2020, during a press conference.

Ex-Director paid off

The Premier said while he was unable to answer ‘anything’ else, he understood, that “Mrs Flax-Brutus resigned with six months’ notice as her contract would say and the board is saying in terms of preliminary information that they made the decision that they would just pay her out for the six months.”

He was also asked if he was aware of the decision before it was made by the BVITB.

“I don’t interfere with the Board like that,” Premier Fahie responded.

Whatever! And what difference will the report make? They should have kept her on while they seek a replacement....but maybe they have one of their friends to fill the spot....we shall soon see

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Six plus half a dozen is not adding up to 12 here. Something in the mortar besides the pestle. I used to wear a dunce cap at Manda School and still slow so someone tell me if I got this right. The BVITB paid Ms. Sharon Flax-Brutus 6 months salary so that she could retire early? Was the 6 month salary in addition to her earned vacation?

Pride and legacy aside, she made out well financially but what was the value to the taxpayer? But it was not her fault that she was paid to go home; I’m sure she willing to work. Was she such a threat to the BVITB that she could not have serve until November? How was her last annual performance appraisal and what was her performance from her last performance appraisal to May 19, 2020? Did she have some recent performance and behavioral issues? Why was Premier Andrew Fahie not apprised (at least a courtesy) of the sudden and controversial departure of a high level director? Residents puzzled, they need a full accounting of what happened? Cuz stay strong. #VG strong.

So, The Minister. The Premier is saying in such an important move he was not informed...This kind of decision the Premier and minister of tourism must sign off on. He must have the facts to do so..... This is sounding crazier by the day..

Who are the BVITB? If the answer is "BH" arent we suppose to get along with each other? A house that is divided amongst itself will not stand.

He was also asked if he was aware of the decision before it was made by the BVITB. This is how he answers '' I don't interfere with the Board like that, "Premier Fahie responded . With that type of answer , I smell a RAT. " It's either YES or NO
