ROAD Town, Tortola, VI – Over the weekend, Premier, Dr the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, along with Ephraim E. Penn, President of the BVI Olympic Committee, were the special guests at a dinner organized by the Wladyslaw Wagner Society, Polish Canadian Yacht Club “White Sails” of Toronto and Zawisza Czarny Yacht Club of Hamilton.

The Dinner hosted by the Port Credit Yacht Club of Mississauga Commodore Martin Lomas included Premier Smith and his wife Mrs. Lorna G. Smith, Penn and members of the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto including Chef de Mission for Toronto 2015, Mr. Xavier Dag Samuels, Joe Chapman, representing the BVI in Men’s Singles squash competition and his coach Adam Murills. (Joe Chapman was the flagbearer for the team during opening ceremony on Friday, July 10).

Among Polish sailors present at the beautifully located Port Credit Yacht Club restaurant were Antoni Kantor, Zbigniew Turkiewicz, Sławomir Królikiewicz, Adam Korzeniewski, Piotr Banasik and Joseph Aleksandrowicz.

In 2012 and 2015 Polish Canadian Sailors organized the Wladyslaw Wagner Sailing Rally to the British Virgin Islands where Wagner, the first Polish sailor to sail around the world settled after the Second World War.

This summer, the Virgin Islands team takes part in the Pan American Games in Toronto. It was a great opportunity to meet again, talking about the current events, the legacy of Wagner, the legendary Polish sailor and the chances of the BVI team at the Games. Mr. Ephraim E. Penn’s father knew Wagner personally, and even worked with him during Wlady’s pioneer BVI days. Polish sailors were invited to the third Wagner Rally at the Virgin Islands.

It is now official: the event will take place on January 29, 30 and 31, 2018. Everybody hopes The Wagner Rally 2018 will become a major event, bringing the sailing history of Poland closer to the world.
