ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Addressing the Virgin Islands (VI) last evening, March 24, 2020, alongside Opposition Leader, Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) said now is not the time for division as the two pledged unity to tackle the threat of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) on the Territory.

The two Leaders were addressing the Territory on live radio, television and via social media as part of a press conference on the VI's COVID-19 response and preparatory measures.

According to the Premier, in commending the Leader of the Opposition for being present for the address, "now is not the time for division. As a matter of fact, there is no time ever for division... its a time of unity," Hon Fahie said in noting that the two coming together will only serve to get more done.

Opposition Leader Hon Penn said the pledge of unity is about the interest of the people of the Virgin Islands, "and that is the oath that we took when each of us took office, and I'm here to pledge that unity," he said.

Unity Pledged

Premier Fahie said on both sides, they may have to fight supporters who might want to tell them otherwise, but they are working in unity together.

"I want to tell the Leader of the Opposition that I cannot shake his hand, only because of COVID-19, but I want to say that I could definitely embrace his heart for what he has done today and doing by showing the unity between the Opposition and the Government," Premier Fahie said.

He said the unity is showing, "we could put everything else down and keep focused that the people of the Virgin Islands and their wellbeing and their safety is first and foremost."
