WEST END, Tortola, VI - Officers at the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) have today, February 27, 2021, shut down a crowded brunch event on the Western End of Tortola, after it was found that the event breached COVID-19 restrictions.

The RVIPF in a release this afternoon said that after responding to a noise nuisance report, they were forced to disperse a gathering at Sebastian’s BVI after an event held at that venue drew a crowd that well exceeded the 175-person legal limit.

Disappointing – Acting Deputy Commissioner

According to the Facebook page of the business, the venue was hosting an all-day ‘Bottomless Brunch Beach Day’; however, Police said that both the event coordinator and the owner of the venue reportedly admitted that permission was not granted to host the event nor to exceed the 175 person limit provided for under the COVID-19 Suppression Regulations.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Jacqueline E. Vanterpool in a release from the RVIPF noted her disappointment to see such a flagrant breach when the rules are there to keep everyone safe.

“Police must enforce the orders as passed and sanctioned by Government. Business owners must continue to abide by the regulations or face the full enforcement of the law,” she said.

COVID-19 rules remain in effect

The RVIPF reminded that Public Health Order 2020 (Covid-19 Control and Suppression Measures) currently in effect states under subsection 4 that all gatherings shall be limited to one person per 64 square feet and shall not exceed 75 persons at any given time.

In the case of graduations, weddings and funerals, gatherings which shall be limited to one person per 64 square feet and shall not exceed 175 persons at any given time:

The Order also states where the organisers of an outdoor event anticipate that the event will exceed a gathering of 75 persons, he or she shall make a written request to the Minister seeking permission to hold the event.

The Acting Deputy also pleaded with the public to uphold all COVID suppression measures until the Government make changes to the regulations.

There was a huge crowd at a night club, was it shut down? Were the officers sleeping then? It’s so good that the force is actually enforcing the rules as it is to keep us all safe but please don’t pick and choose who, when or where. Remember what goes for the goose, goes forward the gander.

No business in the BVI follow the rules in place which is not acceptable. There was also another huge event just like this one. Where are the social distancing task force officers. Everything is a joke in the Bvi until something happens. So I hope you step up the monitoring and response.

Correction - there are businesses who follow the rules and do not play when it comes to protecting their image.

As for that other event, a set of ratchedness screaming idolizing a guy whose soul is lost.

Meanwhile, they find it hard to praise and lift their hands in praise and worship to God.

Strip clubs are illegal in the bvi, try applying for a trade license. You won’t get it, because it’s illegal. So you may ask, how come we have one in the bvi?
The answer to be reveal shortly.

You have created ways to attract business to your restaurant in these times when restaurants are suffering, I work for a restaurant I know what I am talking about..My boss act just like the Government find excuses for everything to keep staff at home and on half pay,,, Why didn t the Police just gave a warning and break it up...These people who getting full salaries have no ides the struggle and hard time that hotel and restaurant workers are facing.....This restaurant need to be praised for doing things to bring business to their establishment, they could have did like most the rest,, send their staff home and wait for things to get better. No , they were proactive...Put the people back to work Premier Fahie, just give them a warning....

Yet, they can’t investigate and catch this criminal, we only wanted to see the performance. As to the performance, there were also a music performance in town. But I don’t see any post or any harassment towards them? Hmm

It has provided the neighborhood with and families with tourism careers and especially yours. Aren't you the same one who benefit from thei over booked rooms. Did you forget that after IRMA the community ate for weeks on "SEBASTIANS" feeding program, are you the same one that benifits from their goods and services?? Let's get real here. The only reason the joint was shut down was because SUPER COP shut it down. They moved him to West End police station and he and another little girl police officer came in and shut down the melee. Was it over crowded? Yes it was. I was there and saw that. But the problem is the manner and attitude of SUPER COP. Single handedly bullying and trying to intimidate the crowd.

Here's how you handle a situation like that super cop.... You don't come in and go directly to the band and stop them from playing then go around bullying. What you do is call the Manager of the business and have a quiet talk to her asking that she stops the band and make an announcement over the speakers that "the police are here and based on COVID guidelines we will have to end the party...and we kindly ask that our patrons disperse within the next 5-10 minutes" the Manager could have simply announce that the bar is now closed and the kitchen will not accept any further orders until the patrons dispersed. At least there would have been a public announcement over the mikes and there would be no need for the suspense and bullying that took place. Patrons would have simply go out in the streets, drink their beers and carry on while social distancing.

There's a way to do your job and there's the right way to do your job. Again, I have no issue with SUPER COP doing his job but it's all about his manner and the attitude that he carries around with doing his job. Here's hoping that I was able to educate super cop and the Manager for future events.

@Reading is Key....Shut your r#%^ and go read the law. You only have to apply for permission if you believe that the event will attract over 175 persons. Clearly the Manager did not believe so as she has been doing this every weekend without incident. it just so happened that that Friday night was unusual. I LOVE SEABASTIAN. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND EVERY ONE GO THERE FOR FOOD. DAY OR NIGHT. THE MANAGER KNOWS HOW TO HOST HER GUEST AND THE CHEF KNOWS HOW TO COOK. PERIOD!!!

Any strip club, Bar, Bar, and restaurant that breaks the law should be fined. The government is always putting laws in place with fines attached to them but they don't give out any fines if you don't fine people and businesses when they break the law they will keep on breaking the law.

It’s simple. Just follow the rules and protocols that’s been in place. Over the last months I believe a lot of people been getting away too often and got comfortable knowing it was wrong.

I was at this event amount of people there was about 155. what happens when the band starts persons remove from their table to dance and that's where it seems like a large crowd. This restaurant is run by a local couple who is very humble, and very nice she does everything to keep her 24 staff employ first she trusts in her God a lot to provide for her staff who she normally her 24 children, she even brought in an excellent new chef to boost revenue, every restaurant should take a page out of this young lady book very humble. when I enter the restaurant on Friday night each table has a name on it, it was a reservation event, each person has a table, and was seated before the event. I was embarrassed with the few tourists which were there to see how Police callwood treats the manager with disrespect, shouting and taking pictures and video with his phone, I was highly offended I was seated around a table and there my picture was taken, to me, you don take pictures of people without their permission, he was extremely rude and show off. we are tired of the embarrassment Callwodd has caused us all these years and nothing has been done about his behavior He is a very ignorant guy who thinks he is the greatest we don't want this kind of person to present us in public. I ask her about the event she told me she did not know her permission for such an event. I have watched her walk to everyone in her brunch, not this Friday, and tell them to put the mask on she does not sell the mask as most people once you visit this restaurant and forget your mask they gave you one free. At this very event, the mask was given out free. Most of the story written in the news is not correct. I would not read all the comments and didn't say anything. this is my regular spot for eating and the best food right now in the BVI: They are excellent for service and Food. Social distancing was a factor when starting to dance in front of the band. It was also a formal event and clean event, with three youngsters doing Michael Jackson songs and dance > it was a clean event. this nonsense in the BVi must stiop

I live next to Seb's. I see more cars than normal for these crazy times parked around but what noise are they talking about??? I never heard anything more than normal. Also how do you look at a crowd and determine the difference between 160 and 180 people??? Supercop being a twat again.
Should of stayed in town but I guess road Town police were getting tied of him giving their own officers parking tickets at RiteWay.

Here is something funny: SuperCop stopped me in town when driving passed the Watering Hole at 1 in the afternoon. He was just talking bollocks about nonsense. I never got a ticket as it was an illegal stop as much as he threatened me. I knew it so just stood there and listened to his ego for 10 minutes, thinking this dude is off my Christmas card list. My dog was in the car at the time and was barking.
Supercop then turned to me and asked me why my dog was barking at him - the dog was in the car with the windows closed - I turned to silly bollocks and told him I didn't know why my dog was barking because I don't speak dog. Then asked him to arrest the dog and teach him a lesson because he talks back to me all the time.
I kept a straight face and he really didn't know if I was serious or not. He let me go and told me he would see me in court which obviously never happened. what a jobsworth so-n-so
