TRELLIS BAY, Beef Island, VI- Reports reaching our News Centre from the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport are that on Monday, December 15, 2025, a police officer of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) was detained.

It is reported that during the security search, the male police officer was found with spent shells on his person. Police have been tight-lipped about the incident; however, our newsroom is chasing the story and will bring more details as they become available.

"Our comms team will be in contact with you," Interim Acting Commissioner Richard Ullger told our News Centre this morning, December 17, 2025.

Low morale?

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force has faced low morale in the past month due to the removal of the territory's first female Acting Commissioner of Police, Jacqueline E. Vanterpool, by the UK-appointed Governor Daniel Pruce.

Ms Vanterpool, a local, was recommended for the top post by the Police Service Commission (PoSC).

Mr Pruce, however, used his power received through the colonial constitution to place another UK national, Mr Ullger, in the position, even though that recommendation was rejected by the PoSC.

I remember some years back they found guns under a bed in a policeman house. Ah set of big guns and nothing came out of it.

Spent shells? Pieces of brass. Why is this even a thing. Just for context, spent shells are allowed through US airports, in carry on bags. Comm's team, let me give you a tip, call it an accident and be done with it. Dumb laws, dumb results.

Why walk with them though if there of no use. Something is wrong with that picture.

Is this news? It's not illegal to have spent shells (they aren't firearms, and they are no longer explosives), and it's reasonable to think that a police officer would be involved in the use of firearms.

Some of them cannot be trusted.

For real. What is so special about the those shells that he/she ain't put them in the trash? They are useless unless you need them for collateral or setting someone up.

Sounds like the officers spent shell end up in them pockets or clothing after target practice and tem completely forgot about it. Them need be more careful especially after handling their guns. Search up yah self properly before going home now yah caught up in nonsense over an accident that could of been avoided.

If is a regular officer who don't handle guns or not trained to have one then that raises an eye brow for sure

Low morale? The Force has been in that state for a long and has progressed in that direction since the days of local Commissioners V.E.M and R.F and every UK ones that followed with the exception of Barry Webbe.
The major reason? Could you imagine putting your life online everyday for a country that does not want you, being called "Islandman" and other degrading names even from some locals Officers?
A local Commissioner will make little difference. Hatred for the Police is cultural and as much as JV is well liked, she has been there during all of this and nothing has changed.
By the was having spent shell in your possession is not an Offence unless they could be linked to a crime.
Another thing was this a test of our security system?

Hatred for the police came after watching time and time again them committing crimes they are locking us up for. Drugs, guns, domestic violence, leaking witness statements and info sometimes getting them killed, destroying evidence, planting evidence, being informants for the criminals, taking bribes, evading child support, etc. How can anyone take them seriously, and respect them?

The low moral has nothing to do with Vanterpool's removal, she should not be there in the first place. The Governor is right to place a UK cop there. Let Vanterpool go home and think about why she is not in the seat. All that glitters is not gold, who knows know. People need to understand that if God dont want her there, she can't be. And if she is honest with herself, she knows she should not be there. The low moral is due to poor pay, and poor working in environment.

A lot of us in the BVI are privy to information that we should not know because there is no honor amongst the people who were charged with keeping the information. A person should be given respect because of their character, not because of their last name, or the fact that they are a BVIslander. We need a commissioner that the officers can look up too, take orders from without question, follow, and most importantly support. There should not be even a whisper of moral stain on this person, otherwise how can we trust them to police the police, police themselves, and police the residents? Mr. Fergus all that glitters is not gold, the governor ain't have the power to keep Vanterpool from that seat if indeed it was hers, because what God have for you nobody can stop. At this point when it come to her, its a popularity contest because she "is from here".

Why is this even news. An officer from the armed response unit had a spent cell in his ballistic vest. This is not an explosive.
The officer has explained himself and no media house should have made this news. We have so much issues in the territory like the government needs to take care of its people and they are not doing a good job at that. The government of the day is taking the tax payers money and traveling the world, increasing their salaries. Only their families and friends are getting help. If they were to call election now they all will lose their seat.
We need a party who is willing to look after people. These present politicians only looking to see what they can get.

Nonsense. Why embarrass the officer for a non crime, a bullet shell is what it is a shell, has no potential of exploring...The law spoke against explosives...He needs to Sue the Incompetent customs & police department for this embarrassment that will affect his life going forward..

Look at all of this drugs and guns and crime and violence and failure and mystery like a plague in the British Virgin Islands. Over 60 years ago what has happened to a small and tiny and peaceful and quiet fishing village that I grew up in?
