Police confirm sudden death of male visitor

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Police are confirming the death of a 69-year-old male visitor.

Inquiries indicate that the deceased, Hubert Lichenschein of Austria, was sailing onboard the MV Babsea with a group of four including his wife, when the death occurred.

The captain of the MV Babsea stated that on Friday around midday the group was snorkeling north of Brewers Bay when he noticed Mr. Lichenschein was missing. He stated that he looked around and saw him attempting to swim back to the boat but then he stopped.

CPR was administered onboard the vessel and while being transported to hospital by ambulance but Mr. Lichenschein was unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

The Coroner’s Office was informed and is to schedule a date for the post mortem.
