ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- They have sparred many times in the House of Assembly (HoA) but on Saturday, June 20, 2020, Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) and Opposition Leader, Honourable Marlon A. Penn (R8) found themselves doing battle on the basketball court at the King of the Courts Championships at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

Hon Fahie was part of a team of legislators from the West, which included Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) and Opposition Member Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2), against a team of legislators from the East, which included Deputy Speaker Hon Neville A. Smith (AL), Opposition Leader Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).

The team from the East edged out the West by a single point in a basketball game that had patrons in bouts of laughter.

The one-on-one friendly rivaly between the Premier and Opposition Leader during the game, as well as the inclusion of Opposition Member Hon Turnbull in the on-court battle among legislators, was also symbolic of political maturity in the Virgin Islands.

The match up was also entertaining and a photo of Hon Fahie being guarded by Hon Penn, captured by local sports journalist, Mr Dean H. Greenaway aka 'The Sportsman', is currently trending on Facebook.

On that same night, Honourable Fahie was crowned King of Celebrity Shootout after overcoming Deputy Governor, Mr David D. Archer Jr in the championships.

I like the unity between the members of the house but I had expected the team from east to win as the honarable Neville smith is a star basketball player.
