ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Phase three of the sewerage project in the East End/Long Look community was expected to wrap up, Wednesday May 9, 2012, announced 8th District Representative, Hon. Marlon Penn at a meeting held last evening, May 8.

Phase three included among other things, the installation of pipes in the Parham Town/East End area.

“We all know that sewerage in the East End/Long Look community has been one of those vexing issues that the residents of the community have been dealing with, and when we got elected it was decided that we could not linger with this project. We started it in April [2012] and I just got word that we will finish phase three of the project, which includes the installation of pipes in the Parham Town/East End area by tomorrow [May9], so that section of the project which we started, will be completed,” the elected member told residents at the East End/Long Look Community Centre.

The next phase will see the installation of additional pipes in the James Young/Major Bay area, Hon. Penn disclosed, with the intention to install the pumping station.

“... we also have to place the main line running from Chapel Hill going towards Paraquita Bay where the treatment plant will then be installed and then we will be able to eventually flush once that treatment plant has been installed,” the district representative added.

Good news for Greenland field

The Greenland field is something the young politician is passionate about and in light of this he announced that work is to resume later in the month.

“I am happy to report that the Minister [Hon. Myron Walwyn] and I had a walk through on the field two Fridays ago where they met with the project team that is responsible for getting the field back up and running.

“We have set a target of before the end of this month to get that project up and running... The first step of that phase that we are trying to complete is the completion of the basketball court on the Greenland field. We are looking at getting that field completed in short order, then we will move on to completing the softball field, the cricket pitch and the 200-meter track which is located on the out-field of that field,” he declared. “Work on the fencing and the long jump pit also has to be completed.”

Additionally, Hon. Penn and the Minister are working on getting a netball court on the field, which was “inadvertently left out”.

“I have been getting a lot of complaints from women in the community who played netball at that field and it won’t be fair that we re-commissioned the field in the absence of the netball court, so we are looking at how we can add the netball court to the project,” Penn said.

Several elected members turned up to support Hon. Penn’s first meeting since he was elected on November 7, 2011, including Premier and Minister for Finance, Dr. D. Orlando Smith; Deputy Premier, Minister for Natural Resources and Labour and 7th District Representative Dr. Kedrick Pickering; Minister for Health and Social Development Hon. Ronnie Skelton; Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron Walwyn; Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Mark Vanterpool; At Large Representative Hon. Archibald Christian and 5th District Representative Hon. Dolores Christopher.

Malone was paid big $$$$$ to do this project many years ago and did not produce anything. He should not have been given another contract to do the same work he did not do in the first contract. I wonder how he can sleep at nights. Then again, who to blame...NDP needs to keep a close eye on him and me sure he does what he was paid twice to do.
