Peter Island, VI – The Bayside Blazers, who won the 2014 Championship in the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League, continue their victory lap celebrations and have been heaped with praise, admiration and encouragement.

It was on Wednesday November 12, 2014 that one of the team’s many sponsors, Peter Island Resort and Spa, invited the Championship team over to Peter Island for dinner and cocktails. Those in attendance included Team Manager Julian Willock, Head Coach Rhennie O. Phipps, and Assistant Coach Jason A. Edwin.

Some of the players who made the trip included Louie A. Poblete, Sandy E. Nadal, Ken E. Silva, Asim Z. C. Beazer, Jolyon J. D. Wilson, and Jubal K. Jones.

In a pep talk to the team, General Manager of Peter Island Resort and Spa Wilbert A. Mason congratulated the team on their Championship victory and told them to “never let anyone discourage you or take away your dreams.” Mr. Mason told Bayside Blazers that “all over the Caribbean there are dream killers-people who continue to say you cannot do this and that…remain determine to achieve your goals and work hard in whatever you do, whether it’s basketball or in your career or daily lives.”

Mr. Mason, who has been at the helm of Peter Island Resort and Spa for about 6 years, said even in the hospitably industry Peter Island is now competing globally and must ensure that they take care of its people, and its product while making a profit or else someone else will “eat your lunch”.

Both Coach Phipps and Edwin thanked Mr. Mason for his words of encouragement and said, “the team worked very hard for its championship victory and will take the lessons learnt into its programme.”

Mr. Willock also thanked Peter Island for their continued involvement with team Bayside Blazers and said he often would tell all the team sponsors that the team is not just interested in financial support but wants involvement, partnership, mentoring, and where possible employment opportunities for its players.

Speaking to this news site in a brief comment today, Bayside Blazers player Asim Z. C. Beazer said, “This championship was a very good one for me. This is like my first championship win ever and I playing basketball for a good amount of years now.”

“It was a great accomplishment,” he said of the just concluded tournament. Commenting on the Peter Island Resort and Spa’s hosting of the team, Beazer said, “We got to socialize a bit more than how we usually do. We met the Manager Mr Mason and he gave us a lot of great words of advice in moving forward both in basketball and in life.”
