Pastors & politicians are both hypocrites - Edmund Maduro
Speaking on the EGM show aired last evening, February 27, 2014, Maduro said the gambling on cruise ships has nothing to do with local residents. He charged that ships are not VI property and the law should have no bearing on them.
Co-host Rajah A. Smith said he felt it was time for limited gambling to be introduced in the VI and noted that while gambling was legal in the Bahamas, it was prohibited for locals to do so.
“But we gamble when we go on the horseracing track,” Maduro said, “We bet money, I have bet money on the horseracing track. What’s the difference?”
Maduro related that gambling goes on every day in the Territory but he would not reveal any names for fear of hurting anyone.
One caller commented that the hotels are filled in places like St Maarten and Antigua with overnight cruise passengers and argued that the VI is losing in this market.
Pastors, Maduro argued, were just as hypocritical as the Territory’s elected representatives who were trying to muzzle the press through legislation. He said under the Territory’s constitution Satan and God are equal.
A caller took umbrage to Maduro’s statement and said he did not like how the host referred to the Territory’s representatives, “Ask how much times the press shut you down,” the caller shouted at Maduro, “because you’re too rude daddy.”
Maduro was unfazed however, and went on a rant about persons listening to the law when he spoke.
“I’m not here licking nobody tail mister. I’m 75 years old and I’ve been doing this to forty years. You all aint gon get me doing stupidness any longer,” he shouted.
Maduro threatened to leave the population in ignorance by leaving his show if necessary.

The man have a right to be p....d and I am p....d also. We have these hypocritical politicians and pastors in this place and all over the world. Pastors raping the system through tax exemptions and putting down the biggest of buildings by begging for tides, getting involve in POLITICS, and calling God out loud.
Then we have the politicians against us after we don't support their ideologies because they are not not being fair and balance, so they put us out of work and keep us out of work. Yes they victimize us, they oppress us, and they continue to steel from us right in our damn face and not even the governor is doing what he suppose to do about it. Oh yes and he is leaving shortly with a smile on his face after all the damage is done.
We do not deserve this type of treatment from these people and it is time to do something about it. They are not for us. They are not for our empowerment, and betterment so it is time to rise up against their actions and save our country and ourselves. Look what we are evolving to which is illegal gambling. Who did you think put the horse track down there? THE GOVERNMENT! So where would you have a track without gambling? They set us up to fail in our own country. Then they want to lock us up for the littlest of infraction of the law when they are putting the bate for us to get caught. Then the politician who is committing his white collar crime is not being investigated because he there is not a official complaint filed against him because he can't even be audited. Why? Because he controls that also.
The pastor every Sunday is saying Jesus is coming to scare you but at the beginning or end of the service, please put your offering in the plate because Jesus want you to do that before he comes.
Stop letting these people brain wash us. We are too intelligent for all of this nonsense.
Everyone knows that people gamble here and the race track is where a LOT of gambling goes on. I have even witnessed one of our elected officials laying a bet with another elected official! It IS hypocritical and nonsensical.
I personally do not support gambling, but I have played games of chance and bet very small amounts once or twice. But regardless of the sum involved, it is still gambling. Big money changes hands at the race track on a regular basis and our politicians simply look the other way and so do the police. This is just wrong.
Either change the law or enforce the law. One or the other. You can't have your cake and eat it too! I believe "limited" gambling should be allowed by locals. I also believe that gambling should be allowed for tourists on a larger scale. I think we are missing the boat on that count! Government is always crying about diversifying our tourism product but they can't seem to see the one glaring opportunity that is staring them right in the face!
A casino built on one of the smaller islands would be ideal as locals would not have gambling flaunted at them and the tourists could enjoy what they have available to them in several other Caribbean locations. Yachties could make it one of their stops and land based clients could have a lovely resort to enjoy. A ferry (owned by the resort) could take guests to the casino from Tortola, Virgin Gorda or wherever they are staying.
WHY NOT?
I wouldn't dear bet on them even if my last dollar had Dr. Smith written all over it.
All Maduro is good for is causing confusion; I see Maduro as one of the founding fathers of our country that has done nothing positive for the development of the BVI; Maduro is not a very good example, the man is pure talk….Maduro was given an excellent opportunity to assist with the further development of the Agriculture Industry in our country and DID nothing (the man is a bag of hot-air)….Maduro sat on the planning board of this country but today those private developers are still coming into the BVI and erecting fences that prohibits the citizens of this country from using “OUR” beaches. The very best thing about maduro, he continues to exercise is constitunital rights of free-speech; at his age he should be offering more ideas to the further development of the BVI; he offers nothing BUT once something begins to take root or progress he just sit back and do what Maduro does best, criticize. bring some fresh idea to the table maduro !!!!!!
