Overseas swimmers expected for Swim & SUP The Sound 2018- VISAR
And swimmers from as far as Australia will be featuring in this year’s event on May 6, 2018.
The annual affair is a fundraiser organised by Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR) and would usually see participants swimming or stand up paddle boarding for 2 and 3 miles in North Sound.
There are also events for ‘assisted swimming’ where persons can use flippers and other snorkelling devices.
“Ready for 2018? Swimmers have come from as far as Australia to Swim the Sound,” VISAR has advertised on its website.
VISAR also noted there will be a few changes this year, including that there will not be a 3 mile category; however, there will be a 1 mile swim or SUP as well as the 2 mile swim or SUP. There is also a sub-category for assisted swimming for the 1 and 2 mile swims.
Swims will start at Bitter End Yacht Club.
Following the swim there will be lunch and family games at Leverick Bay.
Registration is still open and persons can visit the VISAR website at visar.org to sign up.
