Opposition wins elections in Montserrat

BRADES, Montserrat- The people of Montserrat, a British Overseas Territory (BOT), went to the polls on November 18, 2019 to vote in their candidates for the nine elected seats in the Legislative Assembly.

The result was a victory for the opposition Movement for Change and Prosperity (MCAP), which won five of the seats, earning a majority in the Legislative Assembly.

The MCAP is led by Mr Joseph Easton Taylor Farrell.

The People's Democratic Movement (PDM) lost four seats as it was only able to hold on to three.

Incumbent Premier Donaldson Romeo, who was ousted as leader of the PDM shortly after announcing the date for elections, was re-elected as the sole independent representative of the eleven independent candidates to contest the elections.

A total of 35 candidates contested the elections.

A new premier is yet to be declared.

    VIP ain't start off right. .. Yet to see any progress... Especially in agriculture and labour... No movements to address Long standing belongers applications people been here for over 35 yrs never broke the law but when someone don't like someone they find and excuse to oppressed them.... Labour workers oppression and corruption are the main issues that cause the change. ..of course can't ignore stagnancy in the economy...

    Days of one party in power forever or for too long is over. Young people are not that patient and loyal like the older people. We know voters between the age of 18 and 30 make up 52% of voters, belongers voters make up 8 to 12% of voters in every country.. Belonger turn out to vote are always the highest 95 to 99%. These voters cannot be ignored..

    Next election there will be a whole new Political Party new name and everything that is going up against VIP. You all refuse to believe that a new secret Political Party has been forming for a couple of months. In due time they will reveal themselves. All fresh new blood for a better BVI.Out with the old, in with the new. Good luck VIP.
