VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI - Opposition Leader and Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) will host a public meeting with the people of Virgin Gorda this evening Thursday, May 31, 2018.

The public meeting according to Hon Fahie starts at 6:00 P.M. and will take place at the Sanctuary of Hope, Valley, Virgin Gorda.

The meeting is being held under the theme 'Our Past, Our Present, Our Future'. The Opposition Leader noted that at the meeting he will be “listening to the people, while discussing current issues and working on solutions.”

Overreach; stop violating the constitution

It is not clear if he will also report on his recent trip to the United Kingdom (UK) with Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon D. Orlando Smith (AL), where they lobbied the British Government over the issue of the public register on beneficial ownership for offshore accounts.

Both Dr Smith and Hon Fahie have labelled the bill passed by the UK Parliament to bring public registries into effect as “a constitutional overreach".

A few days ago, Hon Fahie warned that any violation of the constitution locally or externally must stop and accused the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) of violation of the local constitution.

Good turn out I must say. Will be good to see those young people who’s always online calling government poppy show etc actually showing interest in their community/country and show up to public meetings and help us figure it out. I respect HON Mr. Fahie and HON O’Neal for showing up and not just talking but listening to the people....

I really think that we have good resources to take this country forward. There are lots of brilliant young people in this territory who understand politics and the way forward that can contribute significantly to territory development. They have to start somewhere if you fall get up and dust your self off and go at it again.

In interacting with some there is that level of fear to come out their box or space. However we the older one need to help them, encourage them sometimes it may mean putting our money where our mouth is and help them to excell. This is nothing about self or money it is about what I can do for my country
