ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- After a year in which it was able to capture the attention of music and party lovers, Virgin Islands band OMG is now releasing its first track- ‘Addicted’- signalling another upward step for the enthusiastic musicians.

The song will be released this weekend and, even before that has been done those privileged enough to hear the music have been giving very positive feedback.

“We put a lot of time and effort into it. Everyone worked hard and made their input so we hoping now that it takes off and that people really like it,” said OMG band owner/manager/rhythm producer, Rickey E. Conner.

“It’s like a slow groovy Soca to start with but then it builds and gives quite an impact.”

The aim of the song, according to Mr Conner, is to put one in a party or festival mood.

“It’s basically saying I am addicted to music, I am addicted to watching people have fun. It’s an addiction to festival or carnival.”

Newest band member

Mr Conner credited newest band member Marcus ‘Yungblood’ Mark for coming up with the concept “because we got the beat and the actual song from Mr Alton Bertie. He produced it for us and just gave me a file saying addicted and Marcus suggested we stick to the theme. So then I added a beat to it. Juney Huggins aka Bandz added some keyboard flavour and the Bassman added to it,” Mr Conner explained.

There are also plans to produce a video for the song.

More tracks to come

Meanwhile, OMG is seeking to produce two more tracks shortly. “By mid-February we should have three tracks out,” Mr Conner related.

He also shared that the young band is made up of a group of persons who are very easy to get along with and while the members have a deep sense of humour they are very serious about their work as musicians.

“We are more friends than put together musicians. We have a strong friendship and that is what keeps us together.”

At this time ‘Bandz’ added: “OMG has a style that is unique and captivating and the chemistry is just awesome. It just makes you want to go and do more and reach that level that you know you belong.”

They men both agreed that most of their music come spontaneously.

The band has been together for just over a year but just about everyone in the band has been in music for a decade or so.

OMG has been enjoying the experience so far has a band, especially after making a strong impact during Emancipation Festival 2015. “We were surprised with the reception we received on our coming out. We have been invited to a lot of jams and were invited to every village during Festival. We were right there with all the top bands playing out,” Mr Conner said.

He said the band is now hoping to hit all the radio stations and have interviews regarding its first release.  “And just let people know that we here!”

The band also recently welcomed a new lead singer in Jevon Parsons.

The other members of the band are Khari and Khadeem Fahie – lead vocals, bass guitarist/arranger; Dante R. Wattley – lead vocals; Roderick O’Neal of St Thomas, USVI – drummer, and Raul ‘Jugo’ Sprauve – engineer.
