‘No candidates selected yet to run with VIP’- Natalio D. Wheatley

Virgin Islands Party Chairman Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), left, had told the media that the VIP is looking for 12 new candidates and the party has moved on from Hon Julian Fraser RA, the Third District Representative. VIP President Natalio D. Wheatley aka ‘Sowande Uhuru’, right, has since added that no candidate has been selected for the Third District. Photo: VINO/Facebook

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Opposition Virgin Islands Party (VIP) has today January 26, 2018 announced that no candidates have been selected by its 76 Member Congress to contest the 2019 general elections.

In a media statement by its President Natalio D. Wheatley aka ‘Sowande Uhuru’, it was stated “to date the Virgin Islands Party's Congress has not met to select any candidate whether At-Large or otherwise.” He noted; however, “We have a number of such persons interested and talks are ongoing.”

The party President warned the public “not to be misguided by anyone who says differently at this time.”

No one selected for the Third against Fraser- Wheatley

There has been wide spread speculations after Party Chairman Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) told the media that the VIP is looking for 12 new candidates and that the party has moved on from Hon Julian Fraser RA, the Third District Representative, that a former Permanent Secretary and Businessman maybe contesting the district seat against Hon Fraser, the former VIP Chairman.

However, Mr Wheatley made it clear that no candidate has been selected for the Third District and that any rumours otherwise “are mere distractions that do not reflect the future and new directions of the VIP.”

President Wheatley re-emphasised that only “the VIP Congress will decide” who runs and where.

Many political observers believe that there will be a snap election this year called by the ruling National Democratic Party, however, it’s unclear if the VIP will be ready or when its Congress will meet.

Hurry and form y’all party so we could vote out NDP!

To vote in the VIP only to have to rush back to the polls to get them out. Listen to them speak. All they are good at is what Caribbean people rate A-plus on, criticising, calling down and destroying. Give these two the Government and watch story. Not my country. We won't do it, no matter how many times they blog about taking out NDP trying to brainwash us. If not NDP, then others, but VIP? Don't make me laugh. Hon.O'Neal isn't even there to help them. People be careful what you wish for. They may be bright young men, but not ready for the big chair.

Fahie has proven especially during and after IRMA that he is a true leader. He is doing a good job of rebuilding the VIP. He is staying focused and not be distracted by naysayers like you and a few others. He is not letting anyone bullying him to move in the direction they want him to go rather than in the wrong direction. Fahie and VIP will serve the BVI well as the next Premier.

Can't replace dishonesty with dishonesty and get better results.. That's not what I'm hearing on the Streets. I spoke to two good people one of who is a good friend of mine who told me that they sign up with VIP. I have no reason to think they are lying unless they change their minds after...

Leh we go where? No sah. Your leader got rid of Fraser, his only sure thing and seasoned politician who is now showing much humility and serious leadership skills. Sorry, you know, the Opposition Leader seem to be real good at calling down the present Government. I think we can give him the crown for the most aggressive and bold opposition leader we have ever had in these Virgin Islands. He throws around words in a way that reminds me of the present U.S. President, uncaring of their resonance locally or worldwide while those words are a minute fraction of unsubstantiated truth.

Therefore when it comes to his opportunity to lead, the mettle needed to make focussed and brilliant decisions towards a better BVI is surely out of reach as the populous will remember his very word and hold him to those things that he is now spouting daily this Government should do and have. We all know his track record. Can he and Sowande do better?

Abba Eban, an Israeli diplomat wrote: The Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. This quote can easily be applied to VIP. The VIP was shellacked 11-2 in 2015 and another election is nigh and it is not prepared. A snap election fever is spreading yet the VIP is floundering. The Opposition is supposed to be the government in waiting. But the VIP is not ready. All we are hearing is speech after speech. How about a list of candidates, plans, programmes……….etc. Are they waiting for the election date to be announced ( there is no date certain for election; it should be)? Geez som bred! Them ting les saw!

@Diplomat, not too diplomatic but real talk. Abba Eban is on point. The VIP is looking a gift horse in the mouth. Its ineptitude will ensure NDP hitting a walk off homer run, hitting a massive six to win the 20-20 match, sinking a winning 3-pointer, winning the penalty shoot out.......etc and winning the election by default. By missing to put a winning team together, the VIP is squandering a great opportunity to strongly compete in the next election. The next election is coming soon to a polling both near, per reliable sources. Normally, a government in power does not call a snap election unless it is confident it is going to win. The Opposition is faltering and still reeling from the last snap election so why not call another snap election? The Opposition is strong on soaring rhetorical speeches but weak on concrete action. Speeches have to be coupled with action. The electorate is asking other than Fahie who is running? Julian is poor follower and out as a D-3 VIP candidate. He had his chance to lead the VIP to victory last election but flopped badly with 11-2 beat down. It was an NDP wave. Big egos do not losers to behave graciously; it is all about self interest, not about public interest. Poor followers are poor losers.

The VIP need money and more powerful backers like back in the day. Right now they seem to lack both. They need professional help to sort themselves. I dont think this press release had the effect it was intended to have. Where is Olivia Pope when you need her?

I agree. Despite all the ole talk. VIP will be DOA with another bunch of non-viable candidates and NDP will make the money shot yet again. So sad

They had all kind of talk about how Fraser was the problem but now that Fraser is gone they still can't get no one to run with them. What a thing my boy. I thought they would be flocking in droves to run with Andrew guess I was wrong. It look like the ex girlfriend turning out to be the best girlfriend.

The vip has no damm candidates, so if one or two people say they running with the vip the party should be honoured.

The vip is just a set of loosers bottom line
    • good (27/01/2018, 09:43) Like (9) Dislike (3) Reply
Good point they have destroyed themselves by destroying every decent and honest candidate that ever ran with them.
  • Stella (27/01/2018, 05:59) Like (14) Dislike (2) Reply
Whoever is advising the VIP needs to be fired early. It should be embarrassing at this stage for any Opposition party to announce that they do not have any candidates selected as of now, to run with the party.

While I understand the internal process of Congress will decide, why air this?

With some 6 to 9 months away from an new general elections, something seems to be wrong. I have now lost confidence in the VIP and must conclude that no one really wants to run with them, and those who want to, they seem not to want them!
