ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The spotlight will be on men when the new season of the popular show, Real Talk with host Karia J. Christopher, airs next month.

Real Talk has not aired since the first half of 2017; however, it was recently announced that the show will be back in partnership with Flow BVI and will debut on Flow TV.

Speaking exclusively with Virgin Islands News Online, Mrs Christopher said recording for the episodes will begin on February 1, 2020 and the show is likely to air about a week after.

Focus on men

Mrs Christopher was not quite ready to reveal who some of her guests would be but said the spotlight would be on men.

In 2016/2017, Real Talk had focussed on 10 Virgin Islands' women who have positively shaped the landscape of the Territory. Her guests had included political figures, career women, educators and clergywomen.

“I am having a focus on men this season and highlighting men positively, their role in the community, their expectations of men in the community and things that are surrounding them. We will have some women but our primary focus this year will be on the male species,” Mrs Christopher said.

Tribute to Dave Douglas

Meanwhile, Mrs Christopher said she is excited to be returning with the show, adding that it is something she truly enjoys.

The show has been in existence for over 20 years and was first aired on VITV.

Mrs Christopher said she is indebted to the owner of VITV, Mr Dave Douglas, who encouraged her to use her voice to impact others.

“And I would also love to pay tribute to the first person that saw me and thought that I had a purpose and that I would be great with the mic. That person was Mr Dave Douglas. So this series will be 100% in his honour because I am forever indebted to him for all that Real Talk has done and for all that will come.”

The purpose

Mrs Christopher also shared that being in the public’s eye is never easy but she has missed Real Talk “tremendously”, adding that she had taken a “backseat” just to do some introspection on her purpose.

“And the purpose is using my voice. So I wanted to encourage people to do whatever they love regardless of what somebody else may think, regardless if persons felt they didn’t have the skill or the support. If you love it you love it and I hope and trust that by me coming out here and doing what I love and trying to encourage persons to be their best selves that somebody out there will be inspired to be the best person they can ever be in spite of the difficulties in trying to do something in the public’s eye.”

Flow TV, Facebook & Youtube

Asked whether the show will be exclusive to Flow TV, Mrs Christopher said: “The show still belongs to Karia Christopher. While I will be shown on Flow TV, the rights and full control of the show belongs to me so absolutely,” Christpher said, adding that Real Talk will also be shown on Facebook and Youtube.
