ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Another 14 days of 'managed' curfew to mitigate community spread of COVID-19 will come into effect from 6:01am on Thursday, April 2, 2020, Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) announced moments ago, March 31, 2020.

The Virgin Islands has 3 confirmed cases of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

In a live coronavirus update on the Government of the Virgin Islands Facebook Page, Premier Fahie said the curfew will; however, allow residents to do their shopping and other business on a rotational basis but how exactly this will be done will be announced tomorrow, April 1, 2020.

He encouraged persons to share their ideas on how this would be done either by WhatsApp or other means.

Futher he called for businesses and customers to observe social distancing and to have no more than 20 persons in places of business at the same time.

The Virgin Islands is currently on lockdown from 8:00pm March 27, 2020 to 6:00am on April 2, 2020.

Absolute curfew & limited curfew

Governor Augustus J. U. Jaspert further explained that Cabinet decided today that the new curfew will run from 6:01am on Thursday to 6:00pm on April 16, 2020 with the exception of essential workers.

He said from 6:00pm to 6:00am will be an "absolute curfew" and from 6:00am to 6:00pm a "limited and managed" curfew to allow limited basic and essential services to function.

Some of these services and persons were listed as pharmacies, wholesalers, fisherfolks and farmers.

A garbage collection system will also be put in place and done on specific days.

More details to follow.

You are so right with your sarcastic comment. But I guess that's really the only ways they could deal with it. People need to buy food supplies and go to their doctor,or bank etc. There's definitely a risk during these times of movement so your point is well taken. My old boss use to say, please don't come to me with an issue.Unless you have a solution or someone or thing that can solve the problem.

An absolute curfew will be in place from 6pm to 6am so no we can't go out at night but from 6am to 6pm, we can go to buy groceries, medical needs, farming, fishing and banking which are the essential needs. Please read it again.

Remember the flu we all had two months ago? I believe that was corona virus.

“Some of the medical staff at our local hospital thinks the reason our entire county and two cities still don't have a single case of coronavirus is because it came through here in January. They had a dramatic spike in respiratory illnesses and lost several patients, but we weren't testing then and the tests now don't reveal if you had it and recovered. Medical chatter indicates some other pockets around the country went through the same thing.”

Dr. Eran Bendavid and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, professors at Stanford: "Fear of Covid-19 is based on its high estimated case fatality rate--2% to 4% of people with confirmed Covid-19 have died, according to the World Health Organization and others. So if 100 million Americans ultimately get the disease, two million to four million could die. We believe that estimate is deeply flawed. The true fatality rate is the portion of those infected who die, not the deaths from identified positive cases." Their data indicates the number should be more like .06--levels of magnitude less. The reason is all sorts of flaws in testing.

In reality, the only real defense against this is a strong immune system. The fear and isolation caused by the lockdown is more dangerous than the virus itself.

The curfew needs to be effective from 3pm or 4 pm on Thursday April 2nd. This will give residents time to get all essential commodities needed for the home and get home as quickly as possible. In addition, a moratorium needs to be in place for the jobless or those who aren’t getting paid. Finally, a stipend is need for those who will not be paid for the curfew period because most businesses will claim that it have impacted them in some way or the other.

I applaud the Government the efforts being made to keep the citizens of these beautiful Virgin Islands safe.
However it thought it would have been more beneficial to lock down for the 14 days in the first instance and then gradually lift the lockdown to managed and absolute curfew. Seems like this week was a wasted week, as we now have 3 cases an of Thursday we can be out if I remember correctly, from 6am - 6pm. That’s basically the normal times for most working people to be out. Correct me if I’m wrong.
You all stay safe and may God continue to bless these beautiful Virgin Islands #vistrong #irma #maria #covid19

The Government needs to balance this or we will have some major social issues. I notice a lot of persons saying let’s go with the two weeks lockdown but I wonder if they understand that they are many who will suffer because of this hence the need for immediate assistance or some guarantee of assistance to assist those in need.

I like you can take care of myself for the two weeks but I am concerned about the many who will not get paid for staying home and who are already unemployed going on four weeks. You may say it’s not bothering me or my family but that is selfish, myopic thinking. Sooner or later it will all hit all of us in the form of crime, more homeless in need of assistance etc.

I am concerned for a few things..... why wasnt there this much hysteria in 2018 when the flu killed 80000+ ? Im hearing all this 5g talk and recently the premier been bashing the internet companies which im sure is to sub consciously prepare the masses for whats next. I have heard that AT&T will be setting up shop and pioneering the 5g network in BVI. Now this over blown virus seems to be the convenient scape goat in order to roll out digital currency since nobody want to touch money no more, then we will be doing everything online, next thing you know the chip in your hand nonesense......lol well played master elites, yall have successfuly made the masses consciously shift into the New World Order...... The Age of smart devices and dumb people that NEED them..... For you conspiracy buffs..... go to www.etymonline.com and type in the word SMART and see what the original meaning is.....

I really don’t see how they will categorize who goes out at what times? Age ? Gender? District?

You have already categorized what additional essential businesses can open ie. Banks, pharmacies, Supermarkets,Gas Stations so that means your only business being out should be to patronize the aforementioned. Just prevent persons from loitering and ensure the businesses close at 5pm to allow everyone to be home by 6pm.

The borders were closed for incoming passengers will that to be extended to coincide with the 16th April date? They are people still trying to get home and with the revised quarantine law (should have been done first) now they can be monitored and their quarantine enforced. IMHO Borders need to be open by the 6th.

Breaking news from antigau and barbuda.

[ " A church-pastor and a church member have been remanded in custody at the state's prison, after pleading guilty to charges of breaching the lawfull regulation of the health curfew and battery/assault on police"]

They were arrested, charged and brought before a court of law, pursuant to the Constitution of Antigua and Barbuda, according to law.

They pleaded guilty to the charges, and remended [put on a curfew in prison]

In BVI however, there is a pastor who is given a warning?

The government is implementing regulations to help curtail and to stop the spread of an infectious and contagious disease, but all this pastor is doing, behaving like gangster and causing confusion in the country.

When Hurricanes Irma and Maria were in full force on the BVI,why didn't pastor cline come out and defy the hurricanes?

Shame on you pastor for this level of LAWLESSNESS!!!!!!
